Hey there,
Nicole, Regan, and I went to Leavenworth, WA, today for their Christmas Lighting Festival. Leavenworth is a little Bavarian village two and a half hours east of Seattle. It is in the Cascade Mountain range and very beautiful and quaint. We ate some yummy German foods (sausage party! and sauerkraut), went into little shops, and froze our butts off in the twenty degree weather. It's kinda like being in Maine or Germany. But more like Maine cuz I've never been to Germany. I bought a Marioshka (sp?) which is a Russian nesting doll. Sooo cute! I don't know why there was a Russian gift shop amidst a Bavarian themed village. Curious. Nicole bought a Russian snowman ornament. Regan bought a bunch of stuff. At dusk the village gathers to sing Silent Night and turn on the Christmas lights. The whole village is awash in holiday spirit. Did ya like that? Cheesy! But it's the truth. What really did it for me was eating chestnuts roasting on an open fire and drinking wassail. I've only heard of these things in Christmas carols. Nicole and Regan laughed at me when I bit into the chestnut. Apparently one must peel the shell and fuzzy layer away first. We wrapped up the festivities by watching Home Alone on the bus ride back to Seattle. It's never Christmas without Macauley Culkin!
