Admittedly, it does look pretty, even to non-scientists. Artistically pretty, which is probably why sie found it so appealing. ;)

Nope. Everyone East already has their snow, and they're sick to death of it. I mentioned in my LJ that I wanted snow, and all of my Eastern-living friends were like "No, no you don't. It's horrible!" I didn't want to be seen as mocking their pain.
