oh, I've had blood draws via an IV many times. But not when I have had nothing to eat or drink in a few days. (my throat was pretty swollen) I guess my family doctor had a chat with the head of the ED or somebody up there and was told they should not have done that, especially since I had just been into the Lab at Steven's less than 24 hours before that to get blood work done and they had tested me for everything under the sun, so it wasn't needed. And that they should have given me water if I asked for it, since I was so dehydrated.

I have worked at clinics in the past and I've been admitted to the hospital many times with Pneumonia, so I do have an idea of what should happen.
I suspect maybe I got them on a bad night? lol I can say this though.. when I barked at the nurse for water, not once did I swear, call names or anything. As a matter of fact, and my mother and husband can back me up on this, I said "could you please get me a glass of water!" It's just that I said it VERY loudly and with... a bit of anger and panic in my voice, instead of in a calm way like I did before. And that must be what pissed her off. She was all nice and smiles before I said that.

Northwest was better.. I had gone there about two weeks before my trip to Steven's. They got me in fast, even though their waiting room was packed, the nurses were VERY nice (they gave me some water for my blood draw), the IV was a snap and the doctor was pretty nice. Only thing I didn't like was when they asked how bad the pain was in my throat on a scale of 1-10. I said about 7 (which it was). So they decided to give me some pain meds in my IV. They gave me Dilaudid, which I had never had before and NEVER want again. I ended up having a horrible allergic reaction to it, where I couldn't breathe (I pretty much forgot how), I got REALLY hot and so on. Scared the crap out of me. And that was only with half the dose in me. They stopped pushing it through when I started gasping for air. That's why I wanted to go to Steven's instead. I thought they would be better since I grew up going there. I'll take Northwest next time.
