I know I never update this anymore, but a recent stirring of events has prompted me to fall back into old habits.

While reading Alex's LiveJournal (honestly, you're gonna know whose it was the further I got into this, so I might as well just get it out there), I have noticed that many people were very offended by a sign not only Richard wore on the Day of Silence, but LaKedra and Erica King as well. For those of you who do not know, the sign said "God created Adam and Eve." Basically, (for those of you who have no idea) this is a shortened version of the "Adam and Eve rather than Adam and Steve" argument. I understand why so many of you are up in arms about this whole thing, and rightfully so. But I've gotta ask you this:

Doesn't Richard also have the right to express his viewpoints?

I understand that you're not debating whether or not he has the RIGHT to, but the fact that it was "disrespectful and offensive" is where the main issue lies. It never occurred to any of you folks that to a good number of American citizens, homosexuality is viewed as "disrespectful and offensive." You can't go and get all wound up because Richard is offending you guys. For all you know, you may have been offending him. I dare you to go into an isolated town down south where not only homophobia but racism and sexism run rampant and promote this "Day of Silence." You will find that you offend people. People may even go so far as to call you the scourge of God. In my mind, that's pretty fucking bad.

Now please don't think that I'm anti-equal rights here or anything. In fact, what I'm trying to do is show another side of the picture. The way this is being portrayed, everyone that's complaining holds a leftist view on the issue. There's nothing wrong with that, but does not the right also deserve equal representation? I believe it does.

If Richard had started going up to people and began to verbally harass them or had started to destroy signs and shirts that promoted the Day of Silence, that would be one thing. But he himself was holding what the American society likes to call a peaceful protest against what you were supporting. I can't imagine how many peaceful protests have been held in leftist favor. Let's think: feminism, civil rights, animal rights, picket lines...the list goes on and on and on. And you don't see any of those as bad because they further many of your causes/beliefs. But here comes Richard, sign posted on his chest, and all of a sudden everyone's like "what a fucking dick."

That's not fair.

Sometimes I feel like I don't have a partner...
