It's happened more smoothly than I feared it might for them, assuming they manage to keep communicating face to face now (and Spike's poetry doesn't ruin everything, ha). It's all about the communication now and not relying on conveying things 'subtextually' again. XD Thanks for the fun read.

What a bit of politeness can't do! That turned out to be a very effective and efficient strategy to win Buffy over. And she put a lot of trust in him pretty quickly too - I would have loved to see the letters exchanged by Buffy and her Dear Friend after Spike had lied to her so convincingly about him being green and oozing! But I suppose there might not even have been time for that between their conversation and the dinner date.

"Just a bloody awful poet luv. You might enjoy some of his newer drafts though. I fully intend to read you plenty of his words."

I loved that. Great ending!

If you're looking for that particular hilarity, here's a scene from She Loves Me, where Amalia sings about her (fat?) penpal and the guy she thought she hated. It's very funny. "Vanilla Ice Cream"

And someone posted the whole "In the Good Old Summertime" film. The scene where he convinces her of the ugliness of her fiancé, very near the end, is hilarious, especially with Judy Garland's amazing, reactionary expressions.
