It's lucky that it was (almost) the longest day today, because I needed all of it for the Spuffy project I got myself into! The original idea I had was to make a peep box (the shoe box kind) of Buffy and Spike in their bedroom from the comics; it ended up as a mix between a peep box and a cardboard model.
Why would you make a replica of Buffy and Spike's bedroom in a shoe box, you may ask. Well, it started out with me looking for inspiration in the solstice being the "longest day". It occurred to me that this is probably the least favourite day of the year for vampires in the northern hemisphere, because they have to stay in almost all of the day. So what does Spike do when he's stuck at home during daylight hours? Watch daytime TV, of course! And if they were in a happy relationship, Buffy would keep him company. So my first thought was to make a manip of Buffy and Spike watching TV together. But on second thought, that was really boring. Also, after having seen the awesome craft projects from the recent round of Seasonal Spuffy, I really wanted to do something crafty myself. And so the idea of not doing a manip but a peep box was born! Because there was a nice comics image of Buffy and Spike watching the news in bed on their laptop, I took that as a starting point. And then somehow, it turned into a bigger project than I had originally had in mind.
Making the bedroom peep box was a lot of work, but also a lot of fun. By the time I finished it there was no natural daylight anymore, so the colours in the pictures I took are a bit off. In reality, the bedroom walls look more purplish and less red/orange.
At the end I've added one sneak preview showing the whole box (and the mess on my kitchen table). I will be posting a more detailed "making of" / look behind the scenes in my own LJ when I have time.
