Worksafe? - Probably.
Notes: I did a Tarot reading based on Buffy's questions to Tara at the end of "Dead Things" (Why do I let Spike do those things to me? etc.), and the plan was I'd then make a Spuffy version of each card in the spread. I only managed to make two pieces of artwork, ( Read more... )

So what's the meaning of the Five of Cups? Your image seems to be full of symbolism. Light and dark, life and death. Is Buffy making a choice here to turn away from the dark and into the light? Why are the cups on the light side upside down? Are they falling? I find it all very intriguing!

For the Queen of Wands I love that you turned the kitty into a black panther. With a leash firmly held by the Queen, of course! Even though the style is simple, it's still a very alluring image.

Thank you for commenting! You are very kind. <3 "Simple" is one way to put it -- I had such vivid mental images of all five "cards" and struggled to execute the ideas; I may have lost the struggle. :D

Here's the Five of Cups from the Rider-Waite-Smith deck:

Thank you for the extensive explanation! Very interesting So where I interpreted Buffy as turning her back on the dark, what she's really doing is looking back at the (heavenly) light. But the dark actually is where the --more or less-- full cups are for her. By the way, don't you think that the man on the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot card looks a lot like Spike?

Yes. :) I suppose it would have been easier to see it that way if I'd used a Buffy cap where only her head is turned instead of her whole body.

OMG, you're absolutely right. I don't know how I didn't notice it! :))

Can't speak to the artists intention (duh) but strictly from a tarot POV, Five of Cups is loss and grief. Three cups are upside down, but two are still alright, so there's hope.

Thanks for the tarot explanation. Interesting to see that the "good" cups are on Spike's side!

For me, 5 of cups is a card that represents loss, regrets and grief... the person grieves the 3 fallen golden cups (failures, missed opportunities, loses, mistakes) and is focused in that negative emotion/thought pattern. However just behind are 2 perfectly gleaming golden cups - new opportunities, things to be happy and thankful for - all it takes is the thought to turn and look outside the negative.
Cups are emotional cards, 5’s are midpoint cards (to me, like a coin toss where a situation may fall one way or the other, forwards or backwards depending on choices and so on)

What a lovely addition! That's interesting about the 5s. :)

Thank you! I think thenewbuzwuzz's artwork captured that midpoint aspect very well.
