More excellent San Francisco fic! I'm curious as to how this works with comics canon. Did Twilight never happen here? Oh, joyous thought! Anyway, loved the location particulars again, and I'm really excited to see how this one turns out, with everyone but Dru disappointed and grumpy right now!

Yes, this fic is a Twilight-free Zone. No S8 whatsoever. (Okay, maybe The Chain, which retcons TGIQ.) Possibly AtF happened, but since I read maybe two of those, I won't be referring to much that went on in them. The only comics intersection is that this basic idea (Dru has a soul!) was sparked by the latest IDW Spike comic. It will probably be Jossed when the next issue comes out this week. *hand wave*

It will take a while for the Spuffy to get fully underway. They have issues, poor lambs.

I was a bit worried about how much S8 this would have in (I'm trying to avoid pretty much all S8 fic now; I was too angry after the end of #40), but I'm really glad I clicked! This was great - I've got my fingers crossed for reconciliation...

I'm so pleased you took the chance - and that you didn't regret it. I'm also sort of miffed that My Fair City is now tainted with the stain of S8. Hopefully this story will go some way toward making San Francisco safe for those who don't accept the comics. (That said, I doubt you'd be too miffed by my fluffy fire escape fic. I had issues, so I fixed 'em.)

As for reconciliation, it may take some doing. They're both pretty silly about these things.

This was a great start. I loved all of Buffy's inner thoughts...she's very entertaining in her own head. :) Looking forward to more.

She doesn't hold back with the Dru insults, does she?

I'm glad you enjoyed Buffy's introspection, because there sure was a lot of it in this chapter. Thanks for commenting!

What an intriguing start! I have no idea what's up with Dru, but I'm hooked. Though Dru and the sealions? Gah!

I have quite a few ideas about Dru that are sort of my personal canon. I can see I've alluded to them in earlier stories, but I'm not sure that anybody else will accept my interpretation. I do think that the soul will affect her differently than it did Angel, for whom it was different from Spike. I see it as being a very individual experience, made all the more unpredictable by her madness and her gift. Expect more Dru with animals, though!

I'm really pleased that it caught your interest. Thanks for letting me know!

I've always been a fan of Dru so I'm anxious to see what you do with her! Her underlying logic is tricky. And animals? It's gonna be hard to top the sealions but I'm looking forward to what comes next!

I'm hooked. To me, it's like season 9 has already started. I love the subtlety of world-building in your story ("adorable charms and stickers with which they customized their stakes were evidence of light hearts and age-appropriate responses to their responsibilities"), love the plot (that fog thingie ia appropriately creepy) and love the dynamics between Buffy, Spike and Dru.

¡Yay! I'm so happy that you are intrigued, because I blame you entirely for this one! Your speculation on the last Spike comic really got me going. The complicated relationships between these three is so interesting to me. Plot isn't really my thing, but there has to be something for them to do, I suppose. I hope I can maintain the pace!

The charms were pretty directly taken from my daughter and her friends, but was also seen in Suckerpunch, wherein the heroine had a string of charms on her revolver. (It was possibly the most realistic thing about girl culture in the whole thing.)

Thanks for your feedback, sweetie!
