Awesome story. I really enjoyed it. Whatever Season 8 leads to, it is my ultimate hope that it doesn't squash the spuffy fic writers. Fic is more real to me than the comic now, and if it dried up I'd be super sad.

I don't think comics could squash Spuffy fiction even writers intentionally tried to do it. Overwhelming majority of fic authors don't read comics and don't care about them.

But my impression is that Joss actually encourages fans to write fanfiction. He created the situation that begs for Spuffy fanfiction. Just think of it. Buffy daydreams about sex with Spike. It's like Nautibitz' fiction turned canon. So much UST from Buffy's side. So many lost opportunities. Perfect set-up for ficwriters. Also, Joss gave us The Seed of Wonder that can basically do whatever a ficwriter wants. :)

So, I don't worry about the future of Spuffy fanfiction.

Up to now I see nothing in the comics, they only managed to kill my joy on re-watching the show, so no change on that front sorry. I was referring more to reading fanfic
