Yep. Things are looking up for him. The demon population of Sunnydale is in for a bit of making up for lost time, methinks...

*loves*

Really great characterizations here, which to me is essential. And a fun approach to S5, too. Great idea to add more Joyce into the story, especially in conjunction with Spike. Those two had such a sweet friendship, it's nice to see it explored a bit more.

This made me laugh out loud:

Not that he had feelings for the Slayer, of course. He just seemed to have feelings for the feelings he’d felt. And now, he was officially a woman.

hee!

Much as I love Season Four, if you think about it, it makes NO sense that Spike would go to Giles in his time of need. The only person in Sunnydale who ever showed him any sympathy or kindness was Joyce. If I were in his shoes, I know where I'd head.

I'm glad the characterizations work for you. As for the "woman" line: hey, at least he's man enough to admit it!

Yep. "The sadder but wiser girl..." I do love Joyce. She has excellent taste, for one thing.

It figured that the one time a woman had been completely his, had fully returned his affections, it would be a bloody spell. To have that woman be Buffy Anne Summers, the woman who should by all rights be the third notch on his Slayer of Slayers Champion belt, was the unkindest cut of all.

The hours after Willow returned everyone to normal were worse than finding Drusilla with a Fungus demon. Worse than the wheelchair. Nothing could compare to the pain of knowing, really knowing, what it would be like to have the kind of connection he’d yearned for his entire existence
Poor Spikey!

She’d been good and generous with him, true. But he was a vampire, however hobbled, and vampires did not offer themselves up to protect the indigenous population. They did not form alliances with the food. Even as he thought it, he knew it was a lie, at least for him. He’d allied with this woman’s daughter, and now he found himself offering what little help he could to her mother. There was something seriously wrong with him ( ... )

You've got to go down to get up! (Which isn't exactly how the song goes, but you get the drift.)

He does take a hammering at this point. Which leads to all kinds of hitherto unthinkable self-reflection. This is the point at which Spike has to ask what he wants from unlife. But then, hooray, he can just start dishing out the violence some more. Unlife is good! (But once the thinky thoughts have been thunk, they can't be unthunk, if you know what I mean.)
