This is a lecture and discussion space dedicated to Season 5 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I've started this journal to exercise some thoughts on the episodes. With Season 5, the series takes a more serious direction, challenging its audience in new ways. Season 5 brought to television studies of the human condition that are very rare in the media, getting the attention of academics worldwide. I decided to create this journal as a way to treat the content of Buffy as text, as literature, as a place to trade insight into the themes brought out in the season.
The format is your basic 101 level college course. I lecture on an episode or theme, and then solicit response and insight from the class. This is a public journal so anyone can join. At the same time, I control the forum and what is allowed in class. Please read the rules. Although I do not insist that you cite your sources (I don't), I will insist that the discourse contributes to understanding. Buffy does rock, but simply saying "Buffy rocks!" is not enough for this discussion.
In the end I would like everyone to have fun while building upon each other's understanding of the Buffy universe and what it says about us as humans (or demons).
