A moment for an update on tedium

I had a comprehensive physical for the first time in years this week...all is well except for my weight. Apparently the 20lbs I hope to lose should be more like 30. I was feeling pretty good there for awhile and this news, well, it's flattened me a bit. I was eating relatively well, getting about 7k steps a day (always shooting for 10k), drinking water and milk, and stopping with the food by 8p.

She didn't mention my weight until I asked and since all the lab numbers check out, I don't know exactly why I feel more like a very sad whale now than I did last week and I can't articulate exactly why I want to lose weight (except to make the next pregnancy easier). There's stuff here - I just don't know how to unpack it all.

The up side was that the experience at the CIGNA health center on Stapley & Southern was 1000 times better than I anticipated. From check-in to labs to nurses and the doctor, I was pleasantly surprised.

We're planning to start the _YOU: On a Diet_ program this weekend. The book is poorly written and filled with terrible eye-rolling analogies but very helpful in explaining why one should make certain choices. Instead of the "avoid crap food because it's bad" rationale, it actually breaks down how food does what it does and why we let it or don't let it. I've found it very informative thus far.

I've finally completed a series of 9 simple collages to complement the new wall colors. The series is a variation on a theme:trees. I used images from different sources...an Asian Art book, a calendar, a book cover, a card and a book about artists with illnesses. I used hand-made, metallic papers and plastics cut in 4 sided shapes. It makes me very, very, very happy to have completed something that I really like. Photos on the gallery soon.

We had a dentist's appointment this morning. After 40 minutes of waiting, we were told that one of us would need to reschedule since they didn't know we'd be bringing a baby. I tried not to make a scene but ripping up my paperwork probably qualifies. Bill reported that the "back" is bigger than you'd expect and the staff much more helpful. He thinks that I would like the dentist because he was warm and very considerate. Once the front office has hopefully forgotten me, I'll reschedule.

I'm ready to cut off my tongue - tonight it has been especially bad. I was in such a whirl after learning about my weight that I forgot to ask the doc her opinion. So I returned to consulting the vast expanse of wisdom on the interweb. I've tried a few new things, desperate for some relief...just how desperate? Bleach, tea tree oil and 4 aleve desperate. Taken before bed, the combo seems to afford a few hours of relief the next day.

We're considering trading the Saturn Ion (Quad Coupe) in for a Saturn Vue. I think the hybrid vue looks good but it's a little out of our price range. Maybe we'll trade for that next year. Right now, I'm keeping fingers crossed for a 6 cylinder. After driving a v-8 as my first car, I'm embarrassed that I'm even *hoping* for a v-6, geez, I can't believe I've even had to drive anything less than a v-8! I jest...sort of.

Saw Layer Cake tonight. A visually captivating film...I thought the audio was interesting too...very dynamic use of sound. The dialogue was entertaining, the monologue a bit cliche and the violence on the cusp of being over the top. All in all, a decent film. I'm even looking forward to seeing Daniel Craig as Bond.

Favorite quotes:

Dragan: "Don't piss in my pocket and tell me it's raining."

Eddie Temple: "You're born, you take sh*t. You get out in the world, you take more sh*t. You climb a little higher, you take less sh*t. Till one day you're up in the rarefied atmosphere and you've forgotten what sh*t even looks like. Welcome to the layer cake son."

XXXX: "The art of good business is being a good middleman."
