Early Bday Delight

Long time friend A gave me a very special early birthday treat last night - relaxed and unrushed conversation over a delicious dinner at The Melting Pot. I love that place and I love her for spoiling me! Her birthday was in February and I just finished her gift. As I put it together, it struck me that through most of my adult life’s triumphs and failures, she’s been near. From bussing tables to motherhood, from Ft Benning to Phoenix, from wedding day to labor & delivery days - she’s been there - on my side, by my side. I feel very supported with her in my corner. As I assembled her gift, I could only hope that she might glean just how present she is in my life, even when she may think she’s not. Every time we meet I feel reaffirmed about how much I simply *like* who she is.

I don’t know if it’s because I’m “eating for 2” but it was the first time I’ve left the Melting Pot not feeling like a stuffed turkey about to die. It was a great time! Of course, Adele didn’t think so. When she and Bill drove away leaving me at the restaurant with A, she was apparently screaming that she “wanted to eat at the store with Ba’A and Mommy!” She screamed, Bill said, for a good 10 minutes and occasionally during the night made some woeful expression about her plight. While I felt a little guilty about her distress, it was remarkably nice to do something I wouldn’t otherwise be able to. Thanks dear A for a delightful dinner!
