Night of the Living Deed by EJ Cooperman

Allison Kerwin buys a fixer-upper B&B in a Jersey shore town in an attempt to get her life back in order for herself and daughter after a divorce. One night a bucket falls on her head and she sees that her home/business is haunted by a murdered man and woman. On top of that, Allison’s daughter, Melissa, and her mother can see the ghosts too.
This event puts Allison on the trail to discover who murdered Paul and Maxie, the ghosts.
This novel wasn’t a standard murder story because mixed in with the case are: PTA meetings, other parents, Halloween, home repair, family and friends, a wall that won’t stay fixed, and Melissa’s teacher that has feelings for Allison. Maxie, who was a mischievous woman in life, develops a crush on Allison’s married friend Tony and she fondles him when she can. When she is rebuffed, Maxie redecorates Allison’s rooms without permission and re-destroys the wall.
There’s a lot of story in these pages, humor, mystery, history, and romance. The true locations and believable history make the story whole. The book cover says “first in a series.” I hope it’s a successful series because there are a lot of characters to follow. Just writing this review makes me want to re-read the story.
E.J. Cooperman is a Facebook friend. I bought the book because I saw the cover on Facebook and then saw it in a store. I’m glad I bought it.
