Fuck I haven't gone to sleep yet so this is going to be horrible and rambley, but here, a glimpse into my head.
Arthur is James Potter, the prat with the heart of gold, the prat who would be king, the prat who likely went on a great many homoerotic boys-trips with the Marauders before his stint with Lily.
The horrible thing is that by most of my calculations, Merlin is Remus, hiding a dark secret and becoming a source of greater purpose for the group (also, dark secret leads to mistrust later in time line?). Don't even get me started on Morgana. I'm thinking Sirius, with his status as greatest ally until the shit hits the fan and then history takes him down as a betrayer and a murderer. Does this make Gwen Lily? Very worrying, though she does indeed exceed expectations and rise above her station.
My 23-hours-without-sleep talk. Sooner or later everything in my life comes down to how closely I can parallel it to Harry Potter. I am not even kidding.
