Earthquake/Tsunami in Japan

Mar 11, 2011 11:18

Happened about 12 hours ago, at 11-ish EST. 8.9, largest ever recorded in Japan. Hundreds confirmed killed, more missing. Power cut off to 4 million, an estimated $10 billion in property damage caused. Narita Airport and railways closed until further notice.

Japan has some of the best earthquake/tsunami protection measures in the world, if not THE best. I suppose we should be thankful at this time that the casualties weren't higher. The one person I know in Tokyo is okay. The nuclear power thing is a little bit exaggerated, though.
