More like "Porco Retardo"

Somewhere, someplace, God hates me for making that stupid joke.

Anyway I saw "Porco Rosso" recently, another incredible Miyazaki film with no ending. The whole movie is two incredible hours of plot development and eye-watering imagery followed by... nothing. I mean, I've seen 'Castle of Cogliostro'. I know that Miyazaki can make endings for his films. Cogliostro had an incredible ending, Sprited Away had a great ending, and I'm pretty sure Princess Mononoke had an ending as well. So why then no endings for these two films ("Howl" and "Porco")? Did they not rate endings? Is there some sort of cosmic, celestial scale that Miyazaki uses to determine which of his films get to have an ending and which don't? What probably happened is that he used up all of his great ending-material when he made 'Cogliostro' and had to leave several other films without endings to compensate. If so, then it was probably a fair trade when all's said and done.

In other news, I found a novel by Twain that somehow escaped my notice during my great Twainfest of '96, entitled "The American Claimant". Life is bliss.
