So, I finished my second interview, which was better organized but a bit less comfortable than my first interview.
I was interviewing with another large Saskatoon law firm. It was a one-on-one interview with the managing partner. I would characterize the meeting as a little uncomfortable. The interviewer asked a lot of questions like "in your opinion, what three characteristics are most important for a litigator". I tend to find those types of questions tedious and not particularly helpful. They don't tell you much about a person's personality, drive, work ethic, etc. It also makes for a stunted conversation. So, I endured the interview and am going back for another one today.
Notwithstanding the uncomfortable nature of the interview, I was impressed by the firm. They seem to have a good mentorship program and really good lawyers. I'm meeting more people today, but I get the impression that they have a pretty good inter-office relationship.
Beyond just the interview, I got to see more Saskatoonians which was great. I had drinks with a friend of mine, John, who is working at another law firm in the city. Seeing John and hanging out at the Yard & Flagon made me realize that I fit in much better in Saskatoon.
I also played a spirited game of Risk with my old roommate and a person we went houseboating with last summer, Jason. Who doesn't like a little game of World Domination?
