It's not ironic because sometimes it's okay to lay the blame elsewhere. I'm going to Godwin myself, but I pretty solidly place the genocide of the Jews in Germany on Hitler :-p

Most days they run a crypto-racist headline, so nothing's really changed in the editorial style.

You're playing the blame game! Thatcher and Blair are insufficient to explain suicide. The economy is insufficient, 2008 is insufficient, Britain is insufficient. Suicide has occurred pre-written history under every form of government and lack of government. It's not dissimilar to drug "addiction"... if identical external conditions produce wildly varying results in different people, the decision factor is internal (emotional, psychological), and the external environment can just barely be defined as a catalyst. Of course, you could argue that a failure to treat these conditions is a failure of the state, but we already know that one is ending in a stalemate :)
