Just tried the new Domino's pizza. Don't bother. My opinion may be somewhat tainted by just returning from the NYC/NJ areas where quality pizza abounds, but I still have Papa John's as a benchmark for mass-produced chain pizza, and it's still better than Domino's by a wide margin. The new Domino's is edible, but even at 75% the price of an equivalent PJ's I'd still go with the latter.
I don't understand why the northeast concept can't seem to migrate south or west. Where I live in Florida, the cost of living is probably half what it is in north Jersey, but intriguingly a pizza here is slightly more expensive. What's the deal? If I were suicidal enough to enter into the restaurant industry, I figure I could make a fortune peddling run of the mill NJ pizza recipes for $2 less a pie than Domino's. The disparity in beer quality and selection between New England and the south is rapidly narrowing, but us bumpkins are still entirely missing out on good, cheap pizza.
