Rumsfeld Finally Allowed to Quit (and Congress Changes Hands)
Sorry for the double post, but this is really important (too).
The resignation is obviously politically motivated. I'd heard that Rumsfeld has tried to resign several times before this. I wouldn't think anything of it, except this quote from Bush: "The timing is right for new leadership at the Pentagon".
I bet it is...
Also, Hastert will not remain Republican minority leader.
But most noteworthy -- it looks like the Democrats have wrested the Senate from the Republicans. They already had the House, but now it's the whole of Congress. I know the two Independents said they'd caucus with the Dems, but I wouldn't blame Lieberman if he gave them the finger every once in a while. Or -- who knows -- maybe they'll kiss and make up and he'll join the party again...
