Even more, this just seems like a series of events wherein everyone tried to act more-or-less righteously, and didn't seek to harm anyone, but the Butterflies were in full Effect and it exploded. It would actually be simpler if the caller was just plain racist, wouldn't it?
I can justify just about everyone's actions except (1) Gates crying racism with his first breath, and making a scene instead of just getting his ID, and (2) Crowley not letting him blow off the steam in his house after producing the ID, and not giving up his name & badge number. Of course, all those failings are reliant on the the testimonies of the other men, and unfortunately dissolves into he-said-he-said.

And then on the other side, this incident is being used for political gain. Did you know that Obama secretly has it out for the beleagured white (supposedly) Christian male? Just ask Rush Limbaugh. It's just like that Sotomayor chick who thinks she knows the law, or something.
