[On Brake Tension]

Long story short, I went over a curb on by bike to avoid a car whose driver wasn't paying attention. It dented the rim enough that I went back to the place where I bought it (couldn't have been more than 15 minutes to ride there! cool!) to see if they could fix it up or replace the rim. The latter turned out to be the case because, "the amount of labor we would charge" would turn out to be a wash. Ended up costing $45 for a used rim and labor.

I got to the end of the block before I noticed there was too much slack in the rear brake (you know, so I couldn't STOP), and went back to have them fix that. I left again only to find that the gears wouldn't shift properly -- the chain never made it to seventh gear, and shifting to first made the entire chain jump. They said the cable was failing, but I hadn't had a problem before that. Regardless, they replaced it free of charge and had it ready something like ten minutes after closing.

What was supposed to be a quick job turned into a 3-hour ordeal. But now I have a "spare" rim and a bike that's good as new.

[On (the) English]

Try to figure out what phrase "Mister Saxon" is an anagram for, and you'll understand why this season of Doctor Who is so friggin' cool. I was convinced enough from other evidence by the time the "Lazarus" episode hit, but it was only explicitly confirmed in the newest episode -- WIN. I'm not sure how they are going to explain it continuity-wise, but it was handled so well that I'll probably be happy with any explanation they come up with.

[On Wii] ("ennui" pun intended)

I finally got my care package from Vinnk. Contents: Kimagure Orange Road (manga) #15, Ouendan 2, and a used copy of Excite Truck. I like Ouendan well enough, but I found myself playing more Excite Truck than anything, spending all evening getting S rankings on every track. That is a fun game that is addictive as hell. It was nice to want to play Wii again.

[On Life]

I walked out of Woodman's last night, and for the first time since I was in Chicago I felt at home. What does that mean? Probably a lot of things, but mostly I think I've found a routine I'm happy with. I can work on private projects at lunch. I'm running and/or biking several times a week. And while it's taking a long time, I'm actually getting the apartment set up into some semblance of a home -- good thing, too, since I signed the lease for another year! Once I move again it'll definitely suck, but by that point I hope to have divested myself of much of the junk I've been carrying around the last few years (mental and physical).
