One Step Closer...

So, Pampered Pets is a local chain of pet stores that we've been protesting since February. They sell dogs and cats, and they're owned by a puppy miller named Ovella Lange. The animals aren't in very good shape, and the store just reeks of sleaze.

When we started in February, they had three stores. As of Sunday, June 6th, they have one. It's the one I'm protesting (in St. Clair Square), but it's their last holdout. We heard that they're just a few bad months away from closing themselves. We're going to work that much harder to protest them, and maybe even add a second day.

What amazes me is that this is one of those cases where free speech has actually worked. Between my group and the group that's been protesting the Missouri stores, there have been a lot of protests that have seemed fruitless. Of course, we don't know how much the protests have actually impacted sales, but we do know that the stores that have been under protest the longest are closed now. There's definitely a link.

I'm very proud of myself and Stacie for standing by our convictions and getting involved. We've never protested anything before, so this is a big step for both of us. I'm really glad I married a woman who will stand up for her conscience, and it's been a real pleasure to be out there with her each week knowing that she's got my back. Our friend Justine, who we met through the protests, has likewise been a source of passion and enthusiasm for what we've been doing. And Katie's been out there most weeks as well, displaying a sign that reminds us that it's not just dogs and cats we're concerned about, but all the rodents and other "throwaway pets" too.
