lmaii's creation!
11th January
Mrs Park had insisted that he stay at the family home after his discharge from the hospital.
And he knew why exactly she wanted it that way. To keep an eye on him and keep him away from Junsu, of course.
Seated at the dining table, the family was midway through dinner when an undesired issue was brought up.
"I've spoken to Chairman Kang and we decided to set the date for the engagement at the end of this month."
"But what's the hurry, Appa? I'm not prepared for it yet."
Keeping his temper controlled at the first refusal, the older man spoke without a hint of expression. "The engagement was announced months ago, it has been long enough."
"I still don..."
Appearing rather short tempered to have flared up at the second bout of resistance, he justified his anger with a revelation. "I am the head of this family and I am your father, you will do as I say. Don't even think about avoiding the ceremony anymore." A short pause before the shocking words. "I have tolerated all your countless flings over the years but I will no longer tolerate that especially when you're going to get married soon. You better make a clean break with that whore and behave yourself from now on."
For all the years of submission he had given to his father, Yoochun was surprisingly resolute in his stand this time round. "Junsu is not a fling or a whore. He is the only one I love."
One could almost see the fumes rising from the senior Park as he raised his hand and left a dark red imprint of it on his son's face.
Alarmed at the sight of her precious son being hit, the middle aged woman finally spoke up against her heart. "Yoochun doesn't mean what he said, he just needs more time to prepare for the..."
"Omma! I meant every word I said. I only love Junsu, and I will marry no one else but him." Nothing could make him deny his love again.
It was unacceptable to him that his son seemed to have suddenly turned rebellious, and with that the man flew into a rage. A rage which his wife knew better than to try to pacify.
Grabbing his walking stick, he whacked the younger man's body without holding back.
The weapon landed on various parts of his body, delivering to him a pain which he took willingly, a pain which he knew was much lesser than the one he would have to bear if he had to leave Junsu.
When the father was done, all he had left was a son who stubbornly knelt in front of him, bleeding from a laceration on his forehead and the corner of his mouth; but still refusing to take back the words he had spoken.
To prevent anymore physical punishment, Mrs Park attempted to calm her angry husband, sitting him down and bringing him a cup of tea.
"Help Young Master to his room and make sure that he stays in there." A last ditch effort to ensure that the engagement party will have its male lead turn up.
Bodyguards who had formerly stood in silence as they witnessed the beating sprung into action as ordered.
---
Applying more pressure to the wet towel to stop the bleeding, he winced as the alcohol solution brought a stinging pain from the swollen spot.
When his mobile phone sprung into action, the specialized ringtone telling him it was Junsu calling, his heart sank.
Reluctant to tell his lover of their latest predicament but really wanting to hear the voice which could be the only source of comfort to him now, he picked up the ringing device and pressed the green tab.
"Hey baby, calling to tell me how much you miss me?" Every single bit of joy and cheerfulness he could muster now was put into that sentence.
"Kind of."
It was unusual for Junsu to be so casually agreeable to his teasing words.
"Is there anything wrong, Su? Why is your voice so soft?"
"Nothing's wrong. Maybe I'm just tired from a long day at work. Are you coming back tonight?"
He couldn't have known so soon... "No, my mother wants me to stay for the night. Are you okay by yourself?"
"Yes, I'll be fine. It's only right that you spend more time with your mother."
"Have a good rest then. Get some sleep and don't miss me too much!" Acting normal again, perhaps not just for the other but also for himself.
"I will. Chun-ah..."
"Yes, baby?"
"I love you."
"I love you too."
There definitely was some level of suspicion but the simple declaration covered any unease swimming in his heart.
---
Holding on to the handset for the few minutes had added to the pain on his hand, the stretch of the abrasions on his knuckles intensifying the sensation with every passing second.
Junsu quickly placed the phone down and relaxed his fingers, hoping that his blood had not clotted while the digits were curved.
Despite the darkness, the familiarity bred over the period he had stayed at the apartment allowed him to find his way around the rooms easily.
Stepping into the bathroom, he took out the first aid box from below the sink and sat down by the bath tub to attend to his wounds.
Cleaning up the house would have to wait, he still had to get replacements for the light bulbs from the 24 hour convenience store.
He was caught off guard when the man claiming to be working for the Park family had pushed the door open roughly and then led the rest in.
Fortunately, they had only thrashed the smaller items which he could clear and not done much damage to the bigger pieces of furniture.
Possibly still wary of Yoochun, the group had only hastily inflicted pain on him with a few punches and kicks before dropping an instructed warning from their boss and leaving.
Looking into the broken mirror, his multiple reflections stared back at him, the bruises on his face seemingly a periodical reoccurence.
Our love will never change, I promise.
---
A piercing scream rang through the Park mansion the next morning.
While delivering breakfast, the family's maid discovered to her horror, the young master of the house lying on the bedroom floor and bleeding from his nose.
Instant unrest drove into Mrs Park's heart, causing memories of the previous night's beating to run amok in her mind.
Amidst her assumptions, the worried mother placed the blame on her husband, reprimanding him endlessly on their way to the hospital.
---
"If Kim Junsu gets pass that door, you better nail yourself on it before I find out. Am I clear?"
"Yes, Boss."
Regardless of his preference, those words poured into Jaejoong's ears, adding to his dislike for the arrogant man who had arrived ranting and raving about how his son better be cured because he held sufficient monetary power to control the medical council
Dismissing the irritation of the ridiculous instruction, the assistant director stepped into his office.
It was rare that the room saw a crowd like this, not to mention it was presently the venue for a heated discussion among the top doctors of the hospital.
"...the position of the tumor, the highest possibility would be Meningioma."
"I agree, but we do have to consider other possibilities."
"Yes, there's only a 30% chance that it..."
"... and if it is proven to be true, then chances of it being malignant.."
"I want a report on the diagnosis, the necessary tests done and an analysis for the most optimal treatment method."
The debate ceased the moment he spoke, all acknowledging with a bow and exiting the premises as they continued in low mumurs.
Thankful for the restored silence, Jaejoong looked at the X-rays taken of Yoochun upon his admission, concentrating on the gray spot near the dural surface.
More rocky roads for you ahead...
====================================
A/N: This chapter is short not because I posted twice this week, but because of my planning for the storyline progress for the last few chapters.
See, I did mention that Yoochun's mother is nothing scary compared to his father.
1) In case anybody still didn't get it... Yoochun's father sent his men to beat up Junsu and warn him to stay away from Yoochun.
2) Yoochun has a brain tumor. Meningiomas are the most common benign tumors of the brain, more common in females than in males. However they can also be malignant. Small tumors are usually incidental findings at autopsy without having caused symptoms. Larger tumors can cause symptoms depending on the size and location.
*Flies away before I get killed*
