It's been an interesting week.

For those who don't already know, I'm back in school. Everyone's first question is always "Where?", which I find annoying because no one has ever heard of the place. I didn't pick the university based on where, but on what. It's the only dual masters (MBA/MSDR) program I have access to. Other options might have been Pepperdine (way too pricey, and moving to Malibu just isn't realistic), George Mason (once again moving really isn't realistic, even to Virginia), and Nova Southeastern (which has a distance program available, and I could always live with relatives in Ft. Lauderdale, but I liked the MDSR program at Sullivan better - I might look at Nova for the Ph. D.). Some people might ask about Mizzou. Mizzou's dispute resolution program is one of the best in the country, and Columbia is only an hour and a half to two hours from where I live. However, the program is an LLM and is only open to applicants with a J.D. (in some cases open to those currently pursuing a J.D.). Obviously, that's not me, at least not yet.

This week, is actually the second week of the quarter. Yes, Sullivan is one of those strange school's that use the quarter system. I have yet to be informed of my financial aid package, so I'm not sure how all this is getting paid for beyond the first $2k, which my employer has chipped in (which doesn't even cover tuition for the first two classes, but something is better than nothing I suppose). I wasn't sure if I should wait on financial aid before ordering my books, but I'm glad I didn't. My professors were nice enough to allow me to turn in the first two weeks of work on the due date for the second week (today). Having received my books on Wednesday night, I have crammed two weeks' worth of accounting and management (roughly 250 pages of reading and several assignments/papers) into what has now been four days. While I have certainly felt some pressure, I'm feeling pretty good about accomplishing this ridiculousness, especially with this month being the busiest month of the year for my office (we book 20% of our annual goal this month - roughly $12,000,000). I know future weeks will become more routine, but I think being swamped this week has kicked me back into academic mode.

In other news, my mom was in a car accident on Friday. She was making a left turn at an intersection in BFE and was broadsided by a semi. She walked away without a scratch - just a bad headache and pretty shaken up. Luckily, she was driving our truck and not one of the cars, and she was wearing her seat belt. I wanted to leave work early, but that's not the reason I had in mind.

Also, on Friday night, after making sure mom was okay, I saw Jerry Seinfeld at the Fox Theatre (Christmas compliments of Missy). I was thoroughly entertained, just as I thought I would be. He really seems like a very natural guy, but that's just my uninformed perception. I will say his act had much more swearing in it than his sitcom (nothing too vulgar, mostly "ass"), which was ironic because of the one episode where Jerry does swear. If you haven't seen it, I'm sure there's a synopsis online somewhere.

I have also found out my upstairs neighbor will be moving at the end of February. I don't think it's a good move for her, but she makes her own decisions. If anyone is looking for a very cheap, decent-size, one bedroom apartment in Lafayette Square, let me know.

And now it's back to work. I have 30 pages of management left to read, one article review to write, and eight responses to discussion questions to post.
