Funeral today for the last of what would have been the closest thing I had to grandparents. It's in Carmi, which is in southeastern IL. It's for Aunt Leona (actually, she's my dad's aunt, her husband, Uncle Debs, died a few months ago). It's a huge family down there. I'm sure there will be just as many people down there as there was for Uncle Debs's funeral. They're really close, and always treat us like family. I won't try to eulogize her here. Suffice it to say, she was one of the nicest people I've ever met, and she always gave me strawberries from her garden.
It's just my dad and I going. He's preaching the funeral. Mom's watching Alivia because Craig is working, and Angie is coming over with her kids so she can wash her truck.
Sometimes you wish you might have known people better, you know? I'm not saying seeing them everyday necessarily, and I don't have regrets, but they really were the closest thing to grandparents for me, and I only saw them every couple years.
On a lighter note, there's a line you cross on the way down to Carmi, where the pronunciation turns from "roar" with a "k" to "row" with an "ark". Southerners. Haha.
Have to shower shave and dress up now. Not sure what the weather will be, but I guess I'll be wearing black anyway.
EDIT: Carmi was misleading, it's actually Cottonwood, IL - which is about 25 miles south of Carmi, and you won't find it on Google Maps.
