leaving on a jetplane (i couldn't help it)

last day as a resident of ontario. tomorrow i start my life out on the w(b)est coast. and i can finally have a reason to hate all these damn easterners heh.

haven't yet documented the end of the thailand trip yet. we had a good seven days on the islands in the south, ko samui for a night, then ko phangan for 4 nights and ko tao for two. all of them were really nice, our resort on phangan was really good, hence the extended stay. the beaches are all good and beachy, phangan was perhaps the best one in my opinion, nice and fine and a good distance out before the rocks start. tao was good for swimming, but not as much depth to the beach, making it more crowded. and samui was a coarser sand and had people selling stuff every two minutes (though the fresh fruit was handy/tasty).

the traveling started on tao as we took a ferry for several hours and then an over night bus to bangkok. that was a rough trip, very little sleep, and then we get to the hotel at 5am and can't check in until 10. that was a tough time to make it through, but our swank hotel was worth the wait. made use of the hot tub, room service and it's attachment to the giant mbk shopping center. 24-hours after arriving we checked out and headed to the airport. then the fun started.

started the day by way over paying the taxi driver by accident. then our first plane was delayed exactly long enough to miss the direct connection out of tokyo. so we made a stop in vancouver (my first time there!), on the flight there the girl behind me got sick, which was pleasant. upon arrival we spent forever waiting for luggage, and thus missed our next connection. waited on standby for the next one, luckily got on that flight. however it was a middle seat, and the domestic flight meant we had to pay for food, but having no canadian money meant we went hungry. got in to toronto and got out of the airport around midnight, maybe 8 hours late. so july 31st 2008 lasted about 37 hours for me, from start to finish. why can't good days be super long?? heh

and the 5 days since getting home have sort of flown by. spent as much time as possible with the family, visited a grand mother, saw the dark knight and tried to catch up on sleep. i have a feeling the next many days are going to be just as busy and far more stressful. but hopefully we'll find a place quickly and be able to spend some time getting to know the city before starting my frantic search for a job.

time to pack up the ol' computer, i may post when things are unpacked and junk, or i may not post for another year, how's that for a cliff hanger? very battlestar.
