The Amazing Race in Perth Part 2

May 26, 2006 00:42

Ok, last week The Amazing Race arrived in Perth, so this week they started out here, so a few comments on the places they go and see in the city this week.

I'll talk more about what I did today later, I just could not find the time to write about it tonight - it's as if an hour passed whenever I blinked.

Starting off with wide ocean vistas... was that a didgeridoo playing? City views, general shots, another lorikeet inna tree

Phil's starting at the same place in the Fremantle Yacht Club as last time.

Ok, and they're to go from Fremantle to Perth to the Swan Bells - mentions the height, and the fact the bells were donated for the bicentennial (they're the bells of St Martin in the Field). The tower is at the end of Barrack Street in the jetty area - it's only a (longish) block away from the CBD, and that block is the Stirling/Supreme Court Gardens on one side, and a minor office/club block ("club" as in exclusive gentleman's club) and The Esplanade park on the other, with the massive Moreton Bay fig trees (not that they'll see from night taxis).

Taxi at late night? They're lucky ;) Of course, they're in Freo, so that'll make it easier.

And they're all arriving in the middle of the night - great for the way the Tower's lit up, but they can't get in!

Oh for Valen's sake, they had to find the Australian version of the frat boys to offer team Mojo (or rather, Monica therein) a place to stay *facepalm*. And since they're there at 12.30 at night, they've got 7 1/2 hours wait for the Tower to open. Pity the new youth hostel wasn't open yet, most of them just got some shuteye waiting on the benches. There's cheap places to stay, but gotta know where to look.

Ok, they got their clues as soon as the tower opened, and are now on their way to Darwin in the Top End, so they're trying to get taxis along Riverside Drive - multilanes and all full in rush hour... they're walking along the riverfront... ok, the frat boys made their way up to the Terrace where they've got a better chance - saw the old Treasury Building, and then they're balancing on the minimal median strip on St Georges Terrace in rush hour. Serves them right for cancelling everyone's taxis.

Aerial shots from over Barrack Street and then the causeway, and one from near King's Park.

And they're away to the Airport, so we shall leave this here.

amazing race, perth
