Anyone else just know that prospective girlfriend wasn't going to be freaked out by cryptids? I mean, little sister got to have a guy who wasn't surprised (even if he was with the bad guys), surely Alex deserved a girl who was going to be calm about it.

It may be that reading about Frances Healy has biased me a bit that way. "Survive first, then get angry, and you won't have time to freak out."

Well, she works in a zoo with big cats and is from Australia. Hard to freak anyone out who's like that even if she's not a secret cryptozoologist.

I'd say that if one is dating a biologist*, they'd be skeptical (given how many hoaxes they deal with), but if you, say, show them a fricken or a church griffin (or a lindworm or cockatrice or something else who thinks you might be edible or a threat to their territory), they would be OMGTHISISSOCOOL. One needs a certain type of enthusiasm for the natural world to make it through grad school.

The bigger problem would be in keeping them from publishing ALL THE PAPERS. Because this is so cool and we must tell everyone!

* Possibly scientists in general.

I knew when she said bunyip and also when she let it drop that she'd seen the pet monster.
