Why cut-tagged? Because I am trying, vainly, to slaughter a little bit more of the standing file, and I think it's unfriendly to make you look at more than five links at a go. (I know that for some of you, these roundups are a necessary evil, and I thank you for your patience. For me, they're housekeeping and a way of putting things where I can find them again if I need them later.)
Reviews!
Julie at Book Hooked Blog
has posted a review of Feed, and says, "I loved the writing. Mira Grant completely committed to creating a unique post-apocalyptic world and provides an incredibly detailed description of the future." Rock on! Also, she has Great Danes, which makes her opinions EXTRA VALID. True fact.
The Lighthearted Librarian
has also posted a review of Feed, and says, "The heart of the story revolves around Georgia, Shaun, journalism and politics and Grant explores each facet well. Exceptional world-building, strong characters and snappy dialogue." Emphasis is from the original review! Yay!
SFRevu
has posted a review of One Salt Sea, and says, "Once again, McGuire has written a multilayered story that will keep you turning the pages long into the night-if not up all night." Also: "This is another urban fantasy that really stands out from the crowd because of the completeness of the world and it's characters who could step from the pages and walk down the road in our own world." FLAWLESS VICTORY.
Ahem. Tynga's Reviews
has also posted a review of One Salt Sea, and says, "There aren’t enough positive words to express how much I adore Seanan McGuire and her Toby Daye series. It’s one of the best modern urban fantasy series out there and I encourage you all to jump on board if you aren’t already a fan." This review is super-sweet and I love it. :)
Let's go for three! Fantasy Book Cafe
has posted a review of One Salt Sea, and says, "October Daye is one of the few urban fantasy series I actually keep up with regularly, and it’s one of the few that I get really excited about reading when I get a hold of the next book. It’s one of only a few series that has me so into it that I’ve gotten into passionate discussions with others about wanting certain things to happen." This makes me happy.
Who wants an LJ review?
libris-leonis has
posted a review of Feed, and says, "Feed is one of those books that will stay with the reader long after they've put it down, and is emotionally honest and painful. It is what literature constantly derides genre fiction for not being, whilst also being about zombies. If you only read one zombie novel, or one horror novel...make it Feed, because Grant has turned in a work of genius, and I'll be following the rest of the Newsflesh series as soon as I can."
...wow.
Um. It's hard to follow that with coherency, so I'll follow with something short. The Guilded Earlobe
has posted a review of the audio edition of "Countdown", and says, "'Countdown' is Mira Grant’s gift to the fans of The Newsflesh World, a prequel that isn’t wooden of forced, but gives us a new perspective to look at the world she created." There are some great notes on the production value of the audio edition, and I highly recommend giving it a read.
I'll wrap up for now with
October's Reading Recommendations from Borderlands Books, originally posted at Tor.com. They have some excellent suggestions for things to read, including, sweetly enough, One Salt Sea. I love them so.
