Let me tell you about the birthday weekend.
My furniture delivery came in the early part of the day, now I've got my couch and my kitchen set. All I need now is my rug and my big lamp, but those are January items, as my lamp is on back-order until then. Later in the day I went and had cake at Future Bakery with Zaira. During the afternoon, I was totally thinking about how I don't have anyone in my life who would light my candles and sing. Then I go to see Shaun Downey and what do you know? Motherfucker had got a cake and lit my candles and sang. Him and his wife Kelly are totally my family, and they know it, and they make me feel like a million bucks at all of these kinds of occasions. The evening was a bit of a dud. Laughed a lot, but still kind of uneventful as a bunch of us just sat at a table and drank beer. I wanted to go dancing. I should have been more assertive but fuck it, I don't think it was really a dancing kind of crew I was hanging with.
The next day was action packed, and it saved the whole weekend. Sunday afternoon was the unveiling party for Shaun's big painting. It's the seven foot by eight foot monolith, bought by this eccentric rich guy named Edward Fortune. He was inviting all of his friends and fellow members of the Arts & Letters Club to come see the thing. Everyone arrived and the painting was behind a red velvet curtain. Then when it was time, Mr. Fortune gave a big speech about the future historic importance of this painting and pulled the curtain off to a big collective gasp. Shaun gave a few words, everyone drank and ate and was merry, and everyone filed out leaving the party to just Mr. Fortune, Shaun, me, and this college buddy of Shaun's named Rachel. Rachel is a total 10, and even hotter than that by the fact that she's a professional illustrator, another one of our superstars who recently kicked her straight job (bartending) to the curb to make it on her talent as an illustrator (and she is awesome, have a look at www.rachelannlindsay.com ). So the party was just the four of us for several hours over the late afternoon and evening, and it was a great time with us drinking wine, smoking pot, eating tons of food, dancing up a storm, and talking about art and relationships and all that good stuff. Kelly was exhibiting at the One of a Kind show and once that was done for the day, she rolled up with our buddy Kyle Stewart and this cool babe from Windsor to effectively begin the third party of the day.
So it all ended up being a good birthday weekend!
