I just got home from seeing Idlewild. I was so excited to see it because I love the shit out of Outkast and I had exceptionally high expectations for how their aesthetic would manifest itself for a mainstream movie. And except for the use of one song off of The Love Below that I thought was inappropriate (only because the movie takes place in 1935 and the song is too modern with all of it's programming and obvious production), I thought the thing was exceptional. It pushes the boundaries of how film is done in a way that seems to point the way for the cutting edge filmmakers of the next ten years. I smiled ear to ear and I felt like a little kid watching the thing, especially in the music sequences. I was very impressed that Big Boi got more screen time than Andre 3000, but I could tell that Andre 3000 just wanted his huge production number and then he was good. I'm dying to see it again now.
