I'm afraid this is another of those ubiquitous "Warn your friends about this" messages, but looking at it, it seems far more likely and menacing than many. Supposedly corroborated by at least one policeperson, I thought I'd leave you to make your own minds up:
"I was approached yesterday afternoon around 3:30 PM in the Tesco car park near the University of Ulster by two males who asked what kind of perfume I was wearing. Then they asked if I'd like to sample some fabulous scent they were willing to sell me
at a very reasonable rate. I probably would have agreed had I not received an
e-mail some weeks ago warning of a 'Wanna smell this perfume?' scam.
Someone walks up to you at the shopping centre's or in parking areas and
asks you to SNIFF PERFUME that they are selling at a cheap price. THIS
IS NOT PERFUME...IT IS ETHER!
When you sniff it, you'll pass out. They'll take your wallet, your
valuables and heaven knows what else."
Rather scary. This is the cut version from an email with at least 3 people's testimonials, so I guess it's a spreading phenomenon, but all I have to say is that it seems like rather a common sense thing. Don't trust random people who have to sell what could only be knock-off goods anyway out of their cars. Any sort of self-preservation instinct you have should tell you that. But just in case it doesn't, here's what your Mummy would say:
Never take sweets, or perfume samples, from strangers.
