Just got back from the Midnight premere of the third X-MEN flick.
I'm trying not to give too much away, here, so bear with me.
So, casting/character wise, they nailed almost everyone, but the "everybody dies" theme seems remiscent of Marvels' What If... series.
Still there were aspects of the movie I thought were well-done. They've presented some additional depth to the friendship/rivalry between Charles and Eric; they introduce the Jean/Phoenix paradigm (which is the central plot point of the movie), and Kelsey portrayed Hank very well, and not just for his eloquence.
Strangely, Kurt Wagner doesn't make an appearance (nor does Sabertooth, but I know the reasons behind that).
All I can really say is, if you don't take the third movie too seriously, and pay attention to its better aspects, I think they did a great job.
Really, given their storyline, they took it, ran like Hell and did an outstanding job. It's just that the route they chose is definitely a WTF moment.
In all, I certainly recommend seeing the movie. Just try not to be too let down by the lack of a conventional plotline.
I'm trying not to be a movie critic - they never know what the fuck they're talking about.
