I received this message yesterday. I'm just curious to see what other DJs think about this idea.
Hey SeaMonkey-
It's Molly here. I am writing to invite you to enter your name in a drawing for a dj gig for August 11. Basically, I have come up with an event idea that gives anyone who we know that djs pretty well, and has djed at the club before, the possibility of being drawn to dj at the club on August 11. Seven names will be drawn this Saturday, July 14. The seven djs that are drawn and accept a dj slot (an eighth name will be drawn for backup), will get to dj at the club on August 11, 2007.
Along with a 1 hour and 15 minute to 1 hour and 30 minute slot, a box/jar with their dj name will be placed at the door. A minimum $3 cover will be charged ($2 goes to Therapy to cover flyer costs, and a minimum $1 will go to the dj of that paying patrons choice.) At the end of the evening, each dj's jar/box of money will be counted. 100% of the money donated to that dj will be given to he/she. Plus, whichever dj recieves the most donated money at the end of the night on August 11, will be invited back to play at Therapy within the next 60 days and will also help coordinate/ plan that event at Therapy. At "their" event, the winning dj will also recieve 50% of the profit at the door. (Some stipulation may apply which would will be discussed further with the winning dj.)

Although I saw it originally used in a different context, the phrase "DJ lottery" comes to mind. I feel a bit strange about the idea of entering a drawing for a chance to make money DJing. How do you folks feel about it?
