Tryin to see what kind of reaction I'd get. I have almost an entire first chapter of the time-travel stuff, but I was suddenly hit with inspiration that I could not ignore... So, take a look at this. Could be a series of one-shots, all fairy tale re-tellings, or maybe I will just run with this idea....
La Belle et la Bête
“Have you ever loved anyone?” She asked with a small sigh. The fire crackled in the hearth, and for a moment the warm orange glow danced across her face. In that moment, he thought maybe he saw a bit of human in her, maybe saw someone he’d never known before… But the flames fell back to their lazy, soft dance and the shadows encroached once more, hiding her face from him. All that was left of her were her hands, gripping tightly to the plush arms of the reading chair. Her slim fingers dug like talons into the rich material when he did not immediately turn away from her, when he tried to peer into the shadows.
The silence dragged for a little too long, but if she noticed, she said nothing. Finally, he turned from the darkness that hid her, and stared hard into the flames. “No.” It was a lie, as blatant as they come. He’d loved once. Lost once. But the memory of it was still too tender, too raw, and he had no desire to share it with the likes of the Beast.
Maybe something within her sensed that, and her voice, when it came again, was harder than it had been. “Could you ever love me?”
For this, this he could be honest. “No,” He answered. It was harder to say than he’d thought it would be and he could not bring himself to look at her. But it was the truth. As beautiful as she was, how could he ever love a beast?
He hoped that that would be it. That that one question would save him. But it didn’t.
The question came, as it had so many times before.
“Will you marry me?”
Alec suddenly felt weary.
“Goodnight, Max.”
It was the first time he hadn’t just outright said no.
And as he left the library, part of him wondered… Could she ever love him?
So, people, any interest in something like this?
