Summary: Urges exist in all places, what sets them apart is their intensities. When one reaches the limit do they crumble or do they devour?
The accident was months ago. The ones that were involved in the accident were long since released from the hospital. Of course Kyuhyun was the only one who was severely injured and that was a blessing in one way. In the way that the accident didn't put all four of the members in such straights but of course it wasn't a blessing at all. Kyuhyun had made it through and had a wonderful recovering. He had long since been happy, back with all of the members of their group, Super Junior and working once again. Things had been peaceful and the trauma of that fateful day when four of their members were almost taken from them in the blink of an eye was over, long gone. So, Jongwoon would like to ask himself for probably about the 50th time already, why was Ryeowook still sneaking into his bed?
Kim Ryeowook, the eternal maknae, the one who didn't have problems showing and sharing his emotions with the others had started crawling into Jongwoon's bed in the middle of the night after the accident happened. The first night, he was a little startled to not only wake up in the middle of the night to another body next to his but a wet one, one that was crying. Apparently, with Kyuhyun in the hospital as he was it was effecting Ryeowook when he slept. He had nightmares and once those woke him up he's sneak into Jongwoon's room for the source of comfort of being next to another warm and caring body. In the beginning he would turn to Ryeowook not having the heart to kick the man out of his bed and even though he wouldn't admit it to the others it was nice having someone else to be comforted by. Granted Jongwoon was doing most of the comforting, whispering to Ryeowook that everything would be okay, Kyuhyun was strong and would be back soon, brushing the hair out of his eyes and rubbing Ryeowook's arm. Really, though Ryeowook comforted Jongwoon just as much, just by being there.
Now, though Kyuhyun was back being snarky as could be. Teasing everyone, playing Star Craft and making everyone else cook for him. Things were back to normal and had been for awhile. Ryeowook had stopped crying at night. The nightmares, well Jongwoon couldn't be sure about those but it would appear as if they were gone too. Yet, Ryeowook was still sneaking into his bed and laying close to him. Just as stealthily as Ryeowok snuck in he snuck out the same way before Jongwoon would wake up. The eternal maknae was indeed acting as such. He probably didn't think that Jongwoon even noticed but he did. Oh yes, he did because lately it was becoming increasingly harder for him to fall back asleep once he noticed the change in his bed. Ryeowook didn't seem to realize that now he not only fell asleep in there but would wrap a leg over Jongwoon's body, or an arm. Sometimes he would nuzzle his chin right against Jongwoon's neck and was completely comfortable. He could feel the warm breath against his skin and honestly it was starting to drive him quite mad. He wasn't getting any sleep. Sleep was…it was uncomfortable now.
One morning he was pouring himself a cup of coffee trying to perk himself up since he was very tired for another night of no sleep. It was the fifth day in a row and they all had busy schedules. Lack of sleep was taking a huge toll out of him. He was tired and grumpy. Jongwoon scratched his head and ruffled his hair in annoyance as he put the coffee pot down to clean up the drips of coffee he had running down his cup and dotted the counter now. A cheery voice was heard behind him. "Mm," was all he said to the greeting that Ryeowook had given him. Cleaning up his mess he took a sip of the caffeine he desperately needed and almost spit it back out because it was much too hot. Ryeowook in the mean time had pranced around the kitchen grabbing a muffin and parking himself right next to Jongwoon. He leaned in over the counter and gazed at Jongwoon as it was a better angle this way. Only to say, "Hyung, you look terrible."
He frowned slightly and then deftly took the coffee out of Jongwoon's hands to quickly dump it down the sink. "You shouldn't be drinking that, no I have something much better." Jongwoon watched, jaw clenched, as Ryeowook disposed of the one thing he wanted this morning in order to replace with some concoction that looked like puke and indeed had matching chunks in it. A broad grin was on the eternal maknae's face as he made Jongwoon take the large glass of mystery goo, yes it was goo. "What the hell is this? It smells funny and looks like puke. Give me my coffee back." His nose was wrinkled up in disgust as his gaze continued to look in confusion at the concoction in front of him. Ryeowook only crossed his arms and shook his head. "No hyung. We don't need you getting sick not drink up it'll take care of anything that might be plaguing you. We all want Jongwoonie to be healthy and happy. It'll give you energy." The smile Ryeowook was giving him was fatal, he shouldn't have looked. A few more grumbles escaped before he succumbed to that expression of Ryeowook's and he drank the mystery goo.
Two more days passed much like the previous one. Ryeowook snuck in and snuck out. Jongwoon grew more uncomfortable, nor matter which way he positioned himself it just didn't work. He even had to untangle himself from the dead to the world Ryeowook so he could make use of the bathroom down the hall. Relieving himself had never felt so good. Afterwards at which he stuck a pillow in Ryeowook's arm and managed to get a few hours of sleep. The only problem he had now since there was always a new one popping up was now he couldn't look at Ryeowook fully in the face. It was just too hard. Avoiding the man was even harder. Everywhere he turned there was Ryeowook. Jongwoon couldn't escape. He couldn't look at the man, it was hard to speak as well because he felt too embarrassed. Having to go releive yourself at night because someone was sneaking into your bed and didn't realize that you knew it, how were you even to begin that kind of conversation.
For the sake of his sanity he tried to stay paired to Siwon. Siwon was the pure one after all. Maybe some of that good, God-loving following stuff would rub off on him. Okay, so that was extremely far-fetched but it was the only thing he could do to get a moment of peace. Ryeowook was just too much these days. Even the other members were beginning to notice his aversion to the other. Of course none of them could guess why. That was a good thing. Siwon had asked him the other day though if he was okay. "Are you okay Jongwoon. You seem lost lately?" Apparently, he seemed off. Honestly Jongwoon wanted to just let everything out right then and there. Just blurt out that Ryeowook was sneaking into his room and it made him all hot and uncomfortable and how because of it he couldn't even talk to him anymore. Hell, he even wanted to tell Siwon he was using him as a buffer, a pure beam of light that he could bathe in and be rid of any of these impure thoughts he was having. Jongwoon only hesitated for a moment though before he just said, "No, no I'm fine. It's nothing." The two both shrugged it off and moved on. Jongwoon still following Siwon around like indeed a lost puppy and even doing a bit of fan service every now and then as well.
Ryeowook though, he still managed to corner Jongwoon. The man was amazing at popping up out of the blue. Walking into the bathroom that Jongwoon was occupying as he brushed his teeth before going to bed, Ryeowook stood next to him going through the actions of washing his face. The nightly routines they all went through before bed. Jongwoon immediately tensed up and tried not to look but, well, it was hard not to look at Ryeowook when he was drenching himself in water. An exaggeration but there was water droplets running down his neck and falling of or some of the man's hair. How did water make things increase in their attraction value. Ryeowook glanced to the side to see Jongwoon staring and biting on his toothbrush. "Hyung, aren't you supposed to uh moved the toothbrush?" Blinking a few times, Jongwoon snapped out of his daze and his ears turned pink sightly "Ah, om, yeah." he turned back towards the double sink and started to spit. Hearing a light chuckle as he did so.
Once he was finished wiping his mouth and putting his tooth brush away he made to move past Ryeowook but Ryeowook just stepped in his path. He reached back and shut the door behind him. Jongwoon's adam apple bobbed up and down as he gulped at these unexpected circumstances. Just what was Ryeowook trying to do? "Why have you been avoiding me, Jongwoon? Did I do something to make you mad?" He asked with a tinge of worry and sadness in his voice, his eyes clearly reflecting those emotions as well. Jongwoon could only cast his eyes down in guilt. "No Wook. Not really." And he hadn't. Nothing he had done had made him mad. Confusion crossed over Ryeowook's face but Jongwoon still couldn't see such things, only the tile on the bathroom floor. "Not really? That implies something though…does it not?" Another thing Jongwoon didn't see coming. Normally people would just let it go at that but nope, not good ol Ryeowook he would catch on to that. "Um..well..Y-you know how..er" He suddenly looked up at the other man in front of him. "Are you still having nightmares?" The pair of eyes that he was gazing into widened for a brief moment. "Oh no. No not anymore." Jongwoon nodded. "Then maybe you should start sleeping in your bed again." As soon as those words were out of his mouth, Ryeowook flushed a deep shade of red and hung his head. "Ah..haha..You noticed..It's just sort of a habit." He looked back up now with a smile on his face though his eyes weren't reciprocating that, "Sorry. I won't do it again." The eternal maknae quickly turned around opening the door, muttered goodnight to Jongwoon and crawled into his own bed determined not to leave it this time.
A hand reached up and scratched at the nape of his neck, a nervous habit. Jongwoon wasn't so sure that had been the best thing to say. He felt like he had hurt Ryeowook's feelings and that bothered him. His intention wasn't that at all nor did he think it would have been that big of a deal to the man but apparently meant a little more. Jongwoon shrugged it off though and headed to bed. He was relieved and a bit happy about having his bed to himself. A peaceful night was to come, and he needed that.
The next morning, Ryeowook and Jongwoon met in the kitchen once more. Sungmin was there as well but he was preoccupied looking at his schedule and ignored the others. "Morning Jongwoon." Ryeowook greeted right before he scuttled off. It didn't seem odd to Jongwoon at the time. That was until he realized he didn't see Ryeowook for the rest of the day and their schedules for the most part coincided the entire time. Sitting on the couch watching tv with Leeteuk, Hyukjae, Donghae and Shindong the show was a good one. Or so he would have thought if he had been paying any attention to it whatsoever. "Hyung? Would you like to stop spilling your drink on me?" an annoyed huff came from Shindong as the glass that was tilting over towards Shindong was righted and roughly shoved in Jongwoon's direction. "Aish, are you even paying attention." Jongwoon just mumbled apologies as he watched Shindong get up to go change his now very wet and stained pants.
Setting his glass down he stood up and asked the remaining three, "Know where Ryeowook is?" Getting a response besides laughter wasn't possible so he just made his way to Ryeowook's room hoping that he was in there. It was either there or the kitchen. Nothing smelled different so the bedroom it was. Being polite he knocked on the door even though it was his room too. They did share so it was odd to knock. "Come in." Taking a deep breath Jongwoon opened the door, stepped into the room and shut it behind him. He could see Ryeowook sitting on his own bed legs crossed and a book in lap. The expression of concentration almost made him retreat but that was no good. He didn't like being avoided and the night before..well that just wasn't doable either.
Clearing his throat he took a seat on the edge of Ryeowook's bed. "Whatcha reading Wookie?" he titled his head in a failed attempt to see the book better. It looked like mandarin but he wasn't quite sure. Ryeowook glanced up briefly and scooted back a little. "Practicing my mandarin skills." he said quietly looking down at his book again. Jongwoon just nodded and let his mouth open as if he was saying a long 'Oh' but without actually anything coming out. Shifting his weight and scratching the back of his neck he realized this was going to be harder than he had expected. Where to start? When did he have a problem sleeping alone? Just the other night he was telling Ryeowook to sleep in his own bed and now he was having second thoughts. He had to push all of his scattered thoughts to the back of his mind though.
Reaching over he took Ryeowook's book away and closed it though he was careful to bend a corner of the page so his spot wouldn't be lost. Setting it behind him he cleared his throat one more time. Now what to say? His mouth felt like sandpaper and the eyes that were staring at him couldn't be erased. It was nervewracking. "Um..I guess I'll just get straight to the point..Heh.." Fumbling for words wasn't something he was too used to but that unfortunately didn't stop it from happening. "You've been avoiding me today and I think it's because of what was said last night. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings Wook..but" he forced his hand from the back of his neck into his lap and even forced his eyes to stop wandering around. Looking at Ryeowook he continued, " I can't sleep properly with you clinging to me. It's just so hot and then I get uncomfortable and then I need to make unnecessary trips to the bathroom." He had somewhere along the way started to ramble as everything was coming out at once. "I can't sleep because I'm thinking too much and then I'm sleep deprived. You even told me I looked terrible. Like I want to look terrible in front of you. But last night wasn't any better than the other nights. I couldn't sleep either. It was weird and I almost thought of-" Ryeowook by this point had his head swimming with all of Jongwoon's rambling and cut him off sticking a finger up to his lips.
Once the words stopped he took his finger away, "You don't need to worry you didn't hurt my feelings. I was avoiding you but I just wanted to give you more space. I-I didn't mean to smother you." Almost before Ryeowook had finished that sentence Jongwoon was jumping in rather aggressively, raising his voice a decibel "You didn't smother me. Not at all." So, that was a half-truth but he hadn't been smothered, not in the way that Ryeowook was thinking anyways. A small smile graced the eternal maknae's lips and it made Jongwoon let out a breath and relax a little. "Don't worry I won't sleep in your bed anymore. I'm okay by myself." Ryeowook continued trying to reassure Jongwoon. He tried reaching around him for his book but a hand grabbed his arm preventing him from doing so. Ryeowook's eyes looked into Jongwoon's with confusion. "My book?" he asked but his question was ignored. "You can sleep in my bed when you want to Wookie." He said evenly. It didn't seem to matter if Ryeowook was in his bed or out he couldn't sleep but in that moment he realized he'd much rather have Ryeowook in his bed than out of it. Ryeowook had been comforting him for months now it felt wrong not to have it still.
Ryeowook couldn't hold the gaze any longer and glanced down at his bedspread. "Uh..I don't think that's a good idea." Now it was time for Jongwoon to be confused. He let go of Ryeowook's arm though. His arm returned to his side instead of going for the book again. "Why not? I want you to." Those words he had not been planning to say but oops they just slipped out when the one in front of him threw him off his guard. "But..didn't you say that you couldn't sleep and it was too hot. I don't want to make you all sweaty and feel icky. Nor go to the bathroom though I don't really understand the need for that one." The more Ryeowook spoke the softer his words got. Jongwoon had to listen carefully to catch it all. Boy did everything he had said go directly over Ryeowook's head. It made Jongwoon grin though. "You're too cute." Jongwoon chuckled and leaned over ruffling his hair just because he felt like it. Ryeowook only blinked a few times before looking towards Jongwoon in utter confusion.
A sigh escaped, Jongwoon. He had had more than enough time to think things over earlier and he knew the conclusion he had come to wasn't one he quite wanted to come to terms with. It was obvious though and he had been in denial for much too long. Ryeowook didn't make things any easier either. He wanted to lay with Ryeowook, hug him, hold him, kiss him among other things that another part of him was attempting to get his attention to for quite awhile now. Anything friendship related wasn't on Jongwoon's agenda anymore but Ryeowook seemed to be completely and utterly clueless. Then again how could he not be, all the pointers to this had occurred when the other was sleeping. Jongwoon moved over to Ryeowook's side, he picked up Ryeowook's hand and turned it so that way he could intertwine their hands and let them rest on his knee.
"You can sleep in my bed anytime you want." He brought their hands to his lips and kissed Ryeowook's hand. Hopefully this was helping getting the message across. "That is if you don't mind giving me a kiss as compensation." There was a twinkle in his eye as he was starting to have fun with this conversation of theirs. Ryeowook's eyebrows furrowed as he thought about Jongwoon's meaning to his words. "I don't." he said slowly. Jongwoon couldn't tell if the eternal maknae fully grasped what he had agreed to but he would find out in a moment, "Then you owe me a lot of compensation and I'm going to collect." He rushed out as he leaned in and brushed his lips against Ryeowook's. His intention was to make a chaste kiss but he changed his mind and tentatively asked permission to deepen their kiss which was hesitantly granted but granted all the same. Jongwoon more than adequately poured his newly understood and accepted feelings into the kiss.
He pulled back almost reluctantly because Ryeowook's were so soft, he wanted to continue. As he looked at Ryeowook he could see that he had managed to turn his face a light shade of pink. Jongwoon could tell that Ryeowook really hadn't been expecting that but there wasn't any signs of digust or rejection in anyway which made him let out a sigh of relief. He hadn't realized it but his heart was beating really fast. Untangling their hands he placed Ryeowook's on his chest right above his heart. "You did this." Ryeowook's eyes went from Jongwoon's to the hand on his chest and back to Jongwoon's eyes. His face was still flushed. "W-when you said you needed to uh use the bathroom earlier it wasn't um because of uh..you know?" Jongwoon just stared into Ryeowook's eyes not giving him an answer but that was more than a sufficient answer for Ryeowook and his cheeks flushed a deeper shade of pink.
Once that was under control he pulled his hand out of Jongwoon's and grabbed his placing it over his own heart. At the moment it was beating at a rather normal pace. Feeling that made Jongwoon reanalyze his earlier conclusion. Had he been mistaken and Ryeowook managed to just indulge him before breaking the news to him that their thoughts and feelings were completely out of sync. "How much compensation do I owe you? You'll need to add tonight to it as well." The words came out shy but sure and it didn't take long for Jongwoon to lean in and take his compensation. While his lips were still on Ryeowook's he said "A lot. Months worth." As they kissed again Jongwoon couldn't help but be filled with complete and utter happiness, Ryeowook's heart beat had sped up. It was racing just like his was. Now he just needed to figure out how to get some sleep without totally devouring Ryeowook in the process. That was going to be a feat in itself but he was up for the challenge.
"Be ready. I might devour you."
