tutorial #7

I know many people don't have selective coloring as they don't have Photoshop due to its expensiveness. So I decided to make a tutorial showing how you can achieve a similar coloring with color fill layers. This tutorial is for the bright blue colors but you can tweak it to get any kind of coloring.

1. First I crop my base into the size I want. Since I didn't want a big graphic I chose 100x100px.
My base:

2. Duplicate your base and change the layer mode to screen. Now my icon will look like this:

Note: The number of screen layers required depends on the brightness of the image. Extremely bright images may not require any screen layers, instead you can try a "Soft Light" layer.

3. Now create a new blank layer (Layer > New > Layer or Shift/Shft + Control/Ctrl + N). Using the bucket tool,
, fill the new layer with #FFEDF1 (light pink) or copy this image and paste it on the top. Now change the layer mode to "Soft Light". Keep the layer opacity at 100%.

4. Again create a new layer and fill it with #D7F5FF (light blue) or copy this and paste it on top. Change the layer mode to "Soft Light" and keep the layer opacity at 100%.

5. Create a new layer. Next, go to Image > Aplly Image > Ok. Don't change any of the settings. Once you click on "Ok" a merged layer will be pasted in the new layer you just created. Change the layer mode to "Multiply".

6. Copy the previous layer and change the layer mode from "Multiply" to "Color Burn".

7. Now create a new layer and fill it with #012A38 (dark blue) or copy this image and paste it on top. Next change the layer mode to "Exclusion". Lower the layer opacity to 40%.

8. Duplicate your merged layer from step #5 and drag it to the top. Change the layer mode to "Soft Light".

9. Duplicate the light blue fill layer from step #4 and drag it to the top and change the layer mode from "Soft Light" to "Color Burn".

10. I wanted a bit more contrast to my icon so I created a Brightness/Contrast layer. (Image > Adjustment > Brightness/Contrast)
I lower the brightness by -10 and increased the contrast by +10. (my settings)
My final product,

I hope the tutorial was helpful
