Character's Age: 19

Abilities

Character's Canon Abilities: Despite being half-selkie, Veser doesn't seem to have any abnormal abilities as of yet.

Conditional: If your character has no superhuman canon abilities, what dormant ability will you give them? I'd very much like it if Veser's ability would be to communicate with animals, specifically sea-life but land animals work too. Since he's half-selkie I don't believe this would be too much of a stretch and would fit his personality fairly well.

Weapons: Aside from his fists, none. He has been drawn with a harpoon but he's yet to be seen with/use it in canon.

History/Personality/Plans/etc.

Character History: Life so far hasn't exactly been a cakewalk for Veser. Even before he was born it seems his life was destined to suck. He's a mutt of sorts, the child of a selkie bound to human form and a human man. In order to keep her Mr. Hatch stole Veser's mother's pelt, forcing her into marriage and cementing her hatred for him.

The birth of their son didn't make things much better. Mr. Hatch was abusive and, as Veser grew older, would use the boy as a punching bag. Veser would make up excuses for his bruises and broken bones: he fell off his bike, he got into a fight at school, he tripped. No one questioned it, not even his father's best friend Lee.

Lee was the only real parental figure in Veser's life. His father beat the sense out of him and his mother seems to have been bitter at being kept away from her beloved sea not only by a man she loathed but now by a child. As Veser put it he was "lucky she didn't drown him in the tub out of spite".

Lee was like an uncle, familiar, safe and Veser adored him. Lee was also hopelessly in love with Mrs. Hatch.

When he began going to college, Veser was quick to move out of his home and move into the dorms. Eventually he spilled the beans to Lee about exactly what his mother was, how much she hated his father and about her pelt. He asked Lee if he'd help him find the pelt so she could be free.

Unfortunately, agreeing to help the woman he loved was the catalyst that led to his death. After not hearing from Lee for over a week, Veser went looking for him. His search led him to a community theater where he had a somewhat violent encounter with a paranormal investigator named Hanna and his partner, a zombie with no name.

Seconds later Veser was tripped up by the ghost that Hanna and {...} had come to investigate. Even with the spirit's malformed, choppy form Veser recognized him almost instantly.

Veser chased down the ghost as it floated away and discovered why Lee had been gone. His body was hanging by the neck in an unused area of the theater and he'd been haunting the building and disrupting the rehearsals since. As Hanna rushed from the room to help two of the friends who'd tagged along, Lee reappeared and questioned why {...} got a second chance at life and he didn't.

The ghost lunged and possessed {...}'s body, once again questioning why the zombie could maintain his humanity yet Lee had been driven to the brink of insanity. Veser weakly apologized and protested that his friend couldn't stay in that body, it wasn't his.

Lee flew into a rage and accused Veser of sounding just like his father. He grabbed a nearby crowbar and attacked the teenager, demanding to know why Veser hadn't told him about the abuse he'd suffered over the years. Veser tried to explain that he couldn't because Lee and his father had been friends for who knows how long.

Lee tried to take another swing at Veser, wanting him to keep him company in death and if Hana hadn't shown up to stop him Lee just might have gained a companion for the afterlife. Hanna managed to exorcise his friend quickly. {...} reassured Veser that Lee's death wasn't suicide to which Veser finally broke down and cried for his fallen friend.

With a snuff and muttering a tearful "fuck" Veser told the pair he needed their help finding something (the pelt) and someone (his father, who he suspected is the one who killed Lee). After a brief encounter with a pair of vampires, Veser was brought to the apartment of Conrad Achenleck where the teenager could be watched over for the time being.

Point in Canon: After being brought to Conrad's apartment so the vampire can keep an eye on him, before Hanna and {...} arrive to tell him about the progress they've made in the case of Lee's death.

Conditional: Brief summary of previous RP history: N/A

Character Personality: [NOTE: Certain parts of Veser's personality come from FAQ sessions done by the creator and sketches found in her DeviantArt gallery.]

The first thing to know about Veser is that yes, he's awesome and he knows it. In typical fashion for a kid his age, he holds a rather high opinion of himself. That being said, he's also an annoying teenage twat with no brain-to-mouth filter. Whether he says highly inappropriate things because he thinks it's funny or he's actually lacking in social tact it up for debate. It's quite possible it's both.
He has very little patience. He gets frustrated easily and will react loudly, much like a a ten year old having a tantrum. Veser can also be a little thick in the head at times but that could be partially attributed to his lack of tact. He's also a little sensitive about his looks, particularly his teeth.

Despite being nineteen, Veser acts very immature for his age. He's full of energy, mischievous and can easily keep up with Hanna Falk Cross's regular, chihuahua after drinking espresso excitement. However Veser is incredibly cynical and finds it hard to trust people. Considering how his own family treats him, it's not a surprise he has very little faith in mankind as a whole.

Veser's interests are very typical for a college student. He enjoys video games, Transformers and Dr. Pepper. He likes soccer, street hockey and seafood (huge shock there). He enjoys flirting and will apparently hit on just about everyone.

He's entirely a slave to his own emotions. When threatened or in a bad mood, he reacts suddenly and violently, throwing punches, kicking and picking fights. It's his first line of defense and, unfortunately, a very poor one. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Veser doesn't seem to have any sense of personal space in a positive mood. He'll drape himself over you, hug and even give a friendly punch in the arm.

At this point Veser feels incredibly guilty over Lee's death. If he hadn't asked for Lee's help in getting the pelt he'd still be alive. He's had time to calm down but now his guilt is being channeled into his first line of defense: anger. He wants someone to take his anger out on, someone to hold responsible and punish. What he'll actually do when he finds that someone is yet to be seen.

Conditional: Personality development in previous game: N/A

Character Plans: I'm really interested in seeing Veser interact with characters from other canons. There are so many amazing casts here and I'm curious how well he'd mesh with them considering his immaturity and the fact he's still mourning the only decent father he's ever had.

Appearance/PB: GNAR GNAR GNAR. Additional note: His eyes reflect light, giving them a slightly glow-y appearance in the dark.

Writing Samples

First Person Sample

[The first thing anyone watching this will notice when watching this video are a pair of unnaturally huge green eyes.  Next are the huge, shark-like teeth that are far from human and finally an entire face is visible. It's the face of a very irritated-looking young man who doesn't seem to know his hand-held game console is now recording him.]

Okay, whatever kind of joke you guys are pulling it's not funny! [He hits a button on his DS and the video shuts off, switching to audio.] Waiting until I fall asleep, dragging me out to a baseball field and leaving me out here. Real fuckin' funny! Shit, I think you assholes broke my DS-

[He hits another button and the audio stops. Apparently he's hit the 'text' option and doesn't realize it.  There's silence for a full minute before the video feed begins again. Veser is still talking, believing that there must be someone out there watching him flip out.]

-Kind of fucking Investigators are you anyway?! Pulling pranks when you're supposed to be trying to find the bastard who killed Lee! What the hell?! [He finally calms down for a moment and scowls, snapping shut his DS but not turning off the audio. The sound becomes muffled as he shoves it back into the pocket of his hoodie.]

Could've at least left me my games. Shit.

Third Person Sample

Veser hated the dark. He'd hated it ever since he was a kid. The dark brought back memories of his father, of hiding under his blankets or in his closet and hoping Mr. Hatch would stick to just hollering instead of coming in to take his frustrations out on his son.

Being at the Port hadn't helped quell that hatred of the dark. When the sirens went off, he was usually the first one to run to an all-night club to get wasted and laugh the night away. Being surrounded by loud people and even louder music made him feel safer than just being boarded up and hidden away for a few hours. It reminded him of being at Lee's place again: feeling protected from any kind of pain or harm, if only because he wasn't alone.

But not tonight. Tonight Veser was gunning to beat the shit out of anything that came out of the Darkness. Call it what you want: the anger stage of grieving, taking out his frustrations on monsters or just misplaced aggression. The fact of the matter was he didn't care what it was or how tough it was- he was going in fighting and now stopping until one of them was bloody or dead.

He gripped the crowbar in his hands tighter as the siren's wail grew louder. "Come on, you assholes." He snarled under his breath, the blood pounding in his temples coming close to drowning out all other sounds. "Fucking bring it on!"
