Headcanon/Did You Know?
1. [canon] His father is physically abusive and has been since Veser was at least 7, most likely since he was a toddler. [implied canon/semi-headcanon] His mother was also neglectful because not only was she trapped in a marriage to the man she hated but now she was saddled with a child.
2. [canon] His birthday is April 1st and he's 19 years old. [SP canon] He's now 20.
3. [headcanon] Veser moved out of his family home the day he turned eighteen and stayed with Lee through the spring and summer until he was allowed to move into the dormitories at his college.
4. [canon] Veser loves dogs, especially mutts. The bigger, the better because he feels like he relates to them.
[headcanon] He also had a dog when he was 10, a big, slobbery Great Pyrenees/Retriever mix named Bruce (after the shark from Jaws). Aside from his father's best friend Lee, that dog was the only thing he loved. Bruce was his best friend for three years until he came home one day and he didn't come when Veser called him. Then his father tosses Bruce's collar at him and said he'd had an "accident". That was the first time Veser truly hated his old man.
5. [canon] Lee was more of a parent to Veser than his own parents. [headcanon] Lee used to go to parent-teacher meetings and introduce himself as Mr. Hatch at Veser's request. He'd also sign his detention/permission slips.
6. [headcanon] Veser was bullied a lot in school because of his looks. This got him into a lot of fights and he spent a lot of time in detention after school.
7. [headcanon] He hated his teeth when he was younger. He thought they made him look like a freak and once, when he was about 5, he tried filing them down with an emery board. He stopped after two scrapes because it hurt too much. Nowadays he's quite proud of his freaky teeth as long as they're not being pointed out in a negative way.
8. [canon] He likes video games, soccer, street hockey and Transformers. Decepticons are his favorites. His favorite drink is Dr. Pepper. His favorite food is FISH TACOS.
9. [headcanon] Veser was not a very attractive baby. His eyes were much larger than your average baby's, he was jaundiced and he already had two very sharp teeth poking out of his gums. Needless to say, he was bottle fed.
10. [headcanon/possible canon?] He has a fear men, particularly tall, intimidating men like his father. In SP, he's okay talking with them over his NV but in person? He'll be very defensive and short with them.
11. [canon] He's a very touchy person. When he likes someone he'll put his arm around them, playfully punch them in the arm, just drape himself all over them. I'd go so far as to say he craves the physical contact because he was deprived of it as a child.
12. [canon] His eyes reflect light, making it seem like they glow in the dark.
13. [canon] He never told anyone about the abuse he suffered at home. When Lee asked him about his bruises Veser would tell him he fell off his bike or something similar. Lee would always believe him. [headcanon] The scar on his forehead came from a particularly severe beating from Mr. Hatch when he was 9. He told everyone he fell off the back porch and split his head open on the concrete.
14. [headcanon] Veser is afraid of the dark. He canonly ran screaming through the dark because he wanted to get the hell out of there.
15. [headcanon] Despite his boasting and fronting himself as a ladies' man, he's a virgin and he hasn't seen boobs outside of the internet. The only kiss from a girl he ever got was in 8th grade during a game of spin the bottle and right after the girl ran away screaming with a bloody lip from his teeth.
16. [canon] Veser enjoys flirting and will hit on anyone if they're cute enough. [headcanon] He prefers women and feminine men because they're "safe", he feels like they wouldn't hurt him. I also attribute this to his seeking affection from anywhere and him being a horny teenager than to any real sexual preference.
17. [implied canon/headcanon] He has a high threshold for pain. He was punched by {...} and was back on his feet fairly quickly. Apparently just accidentally walking/dancing into {...} is like hitting a wall.
18. [headcanon] Lee turned him onto some badass classic rock. AC/DC, The Doors, Led Zepplin, The Who and lots of 70s and 80s bands. That being said, he can't listen to certain songs now because they remind him too much of Lee, namely "Boys of Summer" by Don Henely and a few others.
