A less depressing entry
At least I hope it is !!
I have been spending a fair old bit of time sitting around waiting for the seal pups over the past few months, and I have spent some of that time wondering about fan fiction. I am cross that I didn't manage to get the two fics finished off for the Small Fandom Big Bang, but they are still mostly done and I will try and get them sorted out soon. I do have a couple of other fics on the go and of course I need to finish off the old ones.
I realised that coming back to these big fics after such a long time makes it very difficult to get back into them. I always knew this, but every time I try and get some done, I spend ages catching up with what I wrote before, and time runs out very quickly. It must be the same with readers too, but I've never really appreciated it before, as it must have meant that I used to carry a huge amount of fandom stuff around in my head all the time, not just in the one fandom either, so I could pick it up and put it down whenever I wanted to. It's quite scary to think of what I have forgotten about.
In the meantime, I have to go back and re read lots of my old fics, which I admit to quite enjoying at the moment. Yeah, some of them are a bit rough and ready, but they are fun to read back (and have a quiet snigger about). It is very insightful to look back and see the stuff you did wrong, and the stuff you did right. I am a very different Sealgirl from the one that wrote those stories, and I rather enjoy the sense of recent inspiration and fun that I read there. A lot of the stories were inspired by other people's writing, and interactions with other people and I miss that more than I thought I would. Every so often I think that it would be fun to do a challenge or a DDCC thing again, but I know that there are not enough people to join in - not everyone has the time or energy at the moment to make it work. And in small fandoms, the loss of just a few active people can make a huge difference to something like that.
Anyway... I hope that there will be updates on fics quite soon, and maybe even some new stuff. In spite of the problems with my memory, I do have quite a large set of notes, and I want to get the fics finished off - preferably sooner rather than later (although I have said that before!!).
You know what I need - I need a PLAN!
