I'm Going to Solve the Puzzle, Pat: "Lest We Forget"

Nov 13, 2006 10:20

Saturday was Rememberance Day (Veteran's Day in the U.S.), a day in which we remember the sacrifices made by the members of our armed services during various wars. Banks typically are closed on this day (ostensibly as a sign of respect), except, of course, since November 11th fell on a Saturday this year, most of them were closed to begin with.

So the banks are all closed today, Monday. Is this because they need an extra day to remember the sacrifices made defending our way of life, or did they just feel they got rooked out of a free holiday?

WTF, banks? This seems a little self-serving, not to mention insulting to the very concept of Rememberance Day. Or am I being too harsh? Perhaps all bank employees across the nation are staying home today, somberly reflecting on how so many Canadians died on foreign soil to protect our right to take November 11th off with pay and watch Wheel of Fortune while snacking on Malomars.

WTF, banks?
