Thor - Home At Last

I am typing this from Thor. Huzzah!

I had earlier posted that when I found out that it was only an issue with my power supply, I was initially dismayed, but then took comfort in the fact that at least I had not voided my warranty, and that Thor was being repaired professionally.

Oh, ha. Ha ha ha ha ha.

First of all, iBuyPower (the computer place) appears to have a few liars on staff. They told me that they had shipped Thor back to me on January 29th. Then, when I pestered them, they gave me a tracking number on February 1st. But the USPS invoice shows that it was picked up from iBuyPower by the USPS on February 7th, 8 days after iBuyPower supposedly sent it out.

Second, iBuyPower neglected to indicate on the box or shipping manifest that the computer had been in for repairs (despite my repeatedly bringing up this point and their reassurances that they would do so). What they did indicate was that the box contained an extremely valuable computer. As a result, Canada Customs chargedme almost $600 in HST, which I already paid when I first had the computer shipped over. Since I cannot seem to find the original invoice from Canada Customs (I can find everything else, mind you), it looks like that is a charge I will not be able to recover.

So to get my $300 power supply replaced has cost me $1,000 and 58 days of Thor being absent. Awesome.

Now: when I shipped Thor out, I sent only the computer, and kept all cables here, as they requested. And that's exactly how they sent him back. Except they put in a new power supply. A different power supply. one that no longer matched the power cord I had kept for my original power supply.

The Power Socket

The Power Cord
Fortunately, I have a zillion cables from previous computers, and they had put in a standard enough supply that I could find a match.

On the inside, one of my fans is unplugged. I sure hope it's not an important fan, because I cannot for the life of me find where it is supposed to be plugged in. As well, I got some bonus extra bits rattling around inside.

Probably nothing important

On the outside, they installed this attractive new gap in the moulding, with some sort of dried glue (or secreted resin, I can't tell).

Good job, guys!
And that lower DVD tray button? Yeah, that's purely ornamental now. That drive appears to be dead. Doesn't even appear on my list of available drives.

So: I'm trying very hard to be positive about this. Thor is back home, and functional. No data was lost, and I am back to full power, computer-wise. But, my God, what a fucked-up journey it was, and so, so frustrating. I cannot believe the after-sales service from a place that sells Ferrari-level computers could be so spectacularly shoddy.

Obviously, the next time I have an issue with Thor, I will deal with it either myself, or somewhere locally.

To end on a high note, I leave you with this: a visual representation of how I feel playing with Thor once again.
