Last night while preparing dinner, I found myself for no good reason that I could fathom humming "Dancing Queen". I tried to trace my thought process backwards to figure out where the song had entered, but found no chink in my Abbashield. It had just materialized on its own, beamed in from Planet Abba past all the usual filters and defenses.1
I work on Sundays, and next door is a Fran's that plays music through outdoor speakers. During the week, those speakers are muted by street noise, but right now, as I type this, I can hear them just fine:
You can dance, you can ji-hive,
Having the time of your life
Whoa-oh-oh...
Weird when that happens. Weird how often that happens, where you think of song for no real reason -not playing on the radio, nobody humming it nearby, etc- and then it pops up on the tube or on the radio.
1To give you an idea on how my brain works, this thought was immediately followed by a slightly tweaked bible verse from the Book of Job:
For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me,
and that which I was afraid of is come unto me.
I was not in safety, neither had I rest,
neither was I quiet; yet Abba came.
