Horribly, I am now fifty. Jesus. You never think it can happen to you, right? And then one day you wake up and you're like, "I'm sorry, I'm how old now??"
Despite me being a CleverPants, and despite actively wondering if there was going to be a surprise party for me, I was entirely surprised and totally caught off guard by the ambush at my brother's place, on Murmas Day itself (December 30th). I was feted with a table full of Food Murray Likes (an entire platter of bacon-wrapped scallops, my God), some excellent booze, and a whole roomful of friends.
I have maintained for years now that I was going to celebrate my fiftieth birthday in Disneyworld. Although I didn't make it for my actual birthday, I am going to be there exactly one month later; my friends Ian and Shane and I fly out on January 28th. We didn't go for my birthday because the airfare and park admission prices between Christmas and New Year's are heart-stoppingly grotesque, and it's a bad time of year to try and get away because everyone had family commitments, etc. But come the first week of February, you can expect to see some pictures here of me in mouse ears. You may also find YouTube footage of me as well, because I lost a bet with Ian, and as a result I will at some point ride on the Teacups ride holding a sign which reads "I'm a Pretty Pretty Princess". Ian is now insisting that I must also wear a tiara, but that was not in the terms of the bet, even though Ian insists that it was implied.
So. That's all that's new with me. I hope you all had a good Christmas, Murmas, and New Year's Eve.
