Stop! Nerd Time

I am watchless.

My good and faithful watch of lo these many years has finally thrown in the towel. It's electronic, and was given to me by my in-laws. Apparently when an electronic watch dies, the only thing that can be tried is to "change the coil", because everything else is pretty much just circuit boards. Changing the coil costs $45, and they won't know if that will actually fix the watch until they do it (at which point you might be the proud possessor of a broken watch and negative forty-five dollars).

Rather than throw those $45 dice, I'm leaning towards buying a new watch. The problem is, the one I want has been discontinued. That's the only fully iPhone compatible watch I've been able to track down — there are plenty of Bluetooth watches out there, but all of them are only partially compatible with the iPhone (like, the watch will vibrate when your phone rings, but will not display text messages).

The wishlist I came up with in my head is:

  • vibrates when phone rings
  • can be used to cancel incoming call
  • vibrates when phone moves a certain distance away (5m or so)
  • displays name of caller
  • displays name of sender of incoming text message, or first few words of text

I know this is doable, because the discontinued watch did all of those things.

Any of you guys seen anything similar anywhere?
