Adventures in Medical Land

Feb 20, 2007 10:19

I had yesterday off so I could get some wacky medical testing done. Nothing scary going on, but due to my Christian Science¹ upbringing, my exposure to All Things Medical is pretty much limited to things I have garnered from my good friend, the Television. I was somewhat nervous about things, and remain somewhat nervous about what results might ( Read more... )

Man, you go to all the good parties.

Well, I'm off to have my daughter jabbed with a needle and then feed her ice cream bigger than her head to make it all better.

Cheerio!

"...no doctors, no medicine, no smoking, no liquor..."

Well, you're battin' 500 (Or is it 750 now/still?)

P.S. I know what's wrong with your liver. It's those liver pills you took 25 years ago in that tree outside Sue's house.

I quit smoking over 2 years ago; I only go and see my doctor when things are noticeably, horribly wrong; I take the occasional Tylenol and Otrivin and other fight-the-cold-type stuff; I drink pretty much once a year (at Schlocktoberfest).

I have no idea what that batting average might work out to.

Since I no longer consider myself a Christian Scientist, however, it's not a huge concern. ;-)

Having undergone the procedure you described I too am always amazed at the speed of the blood.

General Anesthesia is another fun one. The sensation is ice cold, though, if they use an injection. However the rate at which your tissues tell your brain that they're cold is far slower than the drug itself. At the start of my first surgery, they injected the anesthesia into a vein in my hand. I felt my hand go cold, and then I could feel it moving into my arm. By the time I felt it reach half way up my forearm, I passed out. Next thing I knew it was a dozen hours later and I was two inches taller!

Good Fun.
