Vosges Haut Chocolat: Goji Bar

Mar 11, 2008 15:48

Goji is: 41% cacao deep milk chocolate, goji berries, and pink Himalayan salt.

First sight: I have to mention this first, because I opened the foil, and I could see the salt, tiny glittering pink crystals. Very cool. The chocolate looks a little glossy thanks to the salt. Once again, excellent snap.

First scent: The chocolate smells rich and salty, but with a bit of a tang that's likely the berries.

First taste: My usual problem with milk chocolate is that it's just too sweet, but this has not been a problem with the Vosges deep milk chocolate, and this bar is another great example. The chocolate is mellow, just sweet enough to nicely contrast with the clean taste of the salt (which adds a wonderful texture, by the way). Nor are the goji berries oversweet. Instead, you get little chewy bits of concentrated tang, a dark, rich berry flavor like currants, but I'm also reminded a bit of plums.

To me, this is a very calming bar. I needed it today.
