Puppies

So I had a really bad time last week/weekend. Lets start from the beginning, shall we.

About two weeks ago I went to the animal shelter looking for a companion for Ayllah. While I was there, I found a Shepard mix pup that was around a year old acting very calm and sweet and thought he would be perfect. As we continued through the Shelter I noticed a wiggly set of puppies in one of the cages and went over to investigate. I fell in love with one in particular, It was a blue merle catahoula mix. Such a beautiful puppy, so me and Jeremy talked about it and he asked me which one I wanted more. I couldn't decided. I knew the catahoula wouldn't be much of a companion for ayllah for a while because it was just a little wiggly puppy, and that she'd love the German Shepard but the catahoula was so so pretty. Jeremy loves me and wants me to be happy so he went along with my irrationality and we adopted the both of them.

I went up there every day I had time to to visit the two puppies, and finally on monday of last week they called and told me my Shepard mix was ready to pick up. I asked if the Catahoula would be ready as well and they told me he hadn't had surgery yet but they would try and get him through so he could go home with the Shepard. Went up there on Tuesday and pick up the Shepard. While I was there I saw my catahoula baby and said hi to him, he had just gotten out of surgery and was groggy and sleepy. They said he could come home tomorrow (Wednesday)Went home and introduced Ayllah and the Shepard, Ayllah was a little bit unsure of him at first, but warmed up to him very nicely and within the next day or two they became the best of friends. Playing and whatnot.

By the time I went to pick up my catahoula baby his two brothers were back in the cage with him, most likely had just gotten their surgerys, and when I pick up my little darling i noticed he had dried on snot all over him and his nose was runny with the wonderful green snot. So we got him home and gave him a bath and cleaned him up.

The first night, Buster, the Shepard, ate a little bit and Ayden, Catahoula, didn't eat anything, I figured that was normal since they're in a new environment and stressed. Second day, I went and bought wet puppy food and two kinds of dry puppy food. Now buster's not eating and Ayden is nibbling here and there at a few pieces of dry food. I called the vet on Thursday to get an appointment since they had a free checkup I could get for them. They didn't have a time available until friday afternoon. So for another day, Buster ate nothing and Ayden only nibbled at a few pieces of dry food. Mind you he's a 6-8 week old puppy, and a catahoula, which are naturally slender. He's getting -Skinny-. and now Buster is leaking clear snot like a faucet. We tryed to feed them anything, Buster wouldn't eat at all, not even turkey, but Ayden ate some turkey.

Friday also happened to be Jeremy and my one year anniversary. So after we went out to lunch we took the puppies in. The vet was really nice and told us they they had some pretty horrible upper respitory infections, and that we need to get some fluids in them and get them on antibiotic shots and keep them overnight and maybe put some IV's in them. Oh god *cha-ching* Without the IV's the total came to $451. Which was way WAY out of our ability. They took off the hospitalization and the total was at 311. still not really in our budget but we did it because I am horrible and already had an attachment to the dogs, and Jeremy again, wanted to make me happy. The doctor was nice enought to let the dogs stay overnight without hospitalization fees and gave them fluids and an antibiotic shot, I believe Gynison or something that sounds similar.

So we brought them home on Saturday around 1:00, and the nurse told us they they had both eatn and to keep food around them at all times so they can eat if they want. She also told us that Ayden had developed diarrea. He looked twice as skinny coming out of the doctors office then he was going in. We got home and I sat him down on the ground to see if he had to pee and he pooped, it was the worst diarrea I'd ever seen, it was brown water. We could tell that buster was feeling better, he ate a little bit when we got home and we tryed to feed ayden, but he wasn't having it. It got to the point that I force fed him a little bit, just because I knew he was real bad off and didn't want to see him go.

I had to go to work at 3, I really didn't want to. I came home on my lunch break to check on him and he had thrown up all over the pillow inside his crate. So I cleaned all that up. I knew throwing up was dehydrating him even more so I din't dare try to feed him again. I went back to work and was talking with a co-worker up there and she said that he vet has her give her dog pedialyte when it's been throwing up or has diarrea, so i ran by walmart on the way home and got home around midnight. Jeremy came home about one and we stayed up with him till four in the morning. I gave him a few syringe-fulls of pedialyte, and he seemed like he started to feel better, he got up and walked around for a few minutes adn went and drank some water and jumped up on my lap. So I was hoping he'd do alright.

I woke up around 9 on Sunday and went in to check on him. He was laying on the pillow facing the front of the crate. I opened the door but he didn't get up, I could see he was breathing but he wasn't looking at me, I waved my hand in front of his face, but he still didn't move, I picked him up and he stood on his front gets but his back ones weren't working, It was like he was a shell or something. He was just breathing. He couldn't move his eyes or blink. It was so sad, and I just sat there and cried. I called my mom and she came over and sat with him while I got ready for work. I left at about 10:45 and didn't come home for lunch. Jeremy had gone to his dad's and buried him while I was at work. He wasn't even 3 months old yet.

When we took Buster back to the vet on Monday to get his last set of shots the vet kept him overnight and gave him an IV without charging us. So buster is doing real good now, he's eating good and everything, and being a puppy. Biting and chewing and peeing and pooping.

I just wish Ayden could have made it too.

So now I'm bound and determined to have a blue merle catahoula puppy.

And me and Jeremy are so very broke.
